Summary

The Banjo and Mandolin Club, huddled together on the right of the platform in Assembly Hall, strummed diligently and with enthusiasm, their zeal atoning for shortcomings due to lack of practice. For this was the first night of the fall term, and many members had not touched their instruments since the final chord had been twanged on class day. (Brewster, playing second mandolin, was doing bravely with a silver dime, having lost his pick and not being able to borrow one!) Beyond the platform some two hundred and fifty clear-eyed, clean-skinned boys sang the words with vim. Many, unable to satisfactorily express their enthusiasm vocally, kept time with their feet. Across the platform from the musicians sat the Assistant Principal, Mr. Collins, the physical instructor, Mr. Bendix, the head coach, Mr. Payson, the president of the First Class, Lawrence Goodyear, and the football captain, Dan Vinton. The mass meeting had been called to formally open the football season at Yardley Hall School. The song ended in a final triumphant burst of sound and Goodyear arose. As he moved to the front of the platform the applause began, the stamping of feet and the long-drawn “A-a-ay!” repeated over and over until Goodyear’s upraised hand commanded quiet.

It’s Spidmas in Spider Webdon. But this year, it’s no ordinary Spidmas. As Spid wraps presents and gets ready to welcome his friends, little does he know this will be a Spidmas he will never forget. This heart-warming Christmas audiobook features two songs: 'A Faraway Spidmas Wish' and 'Spidmas Day'. You can also find music videos of the songs at https://spidthespider.com and https://www.youtube.com/spidthespider. Spid is a lowly spider, who wants to better himself, write songs, and marry his girlfriend Bid, though he is prone to hilarious mishaps mostly of his own making. He is hard-working, cool, and a role model for young children. As well as encouraging children to read and love books, Spid's adventures also teach valuable life lessons, including determination and what psychologists call a 'growth mindset' (desire to better oneself and succeed), the importance of friendship, and sustainability. With very creative prose, Spid's adventures are fun for parents, and teachers to read to, and with, their children. They present lots of opportunities to invest dramatic licence thus helping adults and children interact and engage. The humour works at multiple levels from silly and slapstick to more sophisticated wordplay and concepts. Thus, children will discover more and enjoy reading the stories multiple times. There’s been a murder.
An eyewitness has come forward, and the killer has confessed.
But there’s a problem. The two are conjoined twins, literally joined at the hip since birth. For the police, keeping the murderer in custody means locking up his innocent brother along with him—an untenable situation.
The frustrated legal system wrestles with how to prosecute a murderer who is apparently immune from punishment, as any attempt to exact justice would surely affect his conjoined twin.
It appears there can be no satisfactory outcome. That is until a surprising discovery is made.

No matter what nationality or religious belief, parents love their children, children love their parents, people love each other, and love feels the same no matter where we live or what language we speak. This book gives children a very clear look at the ways that we might be different …our clothes, our nationality, and the color of our skin. But no matter these differences, love is the unifying factor, and each of us is responsible to bring this love and to share this love in the world.
