The Qin state emerged as a formidable power during the turbulent Warring States period (475–221 BCE), a time when rival kingdoms vied for dominance over China. Originally a small and relatively minor state located in the western regions, Qin gradually expanded its influence through strategic warfare, strong leadership, and administrative reforms. Unlike some of the more culturally refined states in the east, Qin was often perceived as a land of rugged warriors and strict discipline, an image that ultimately worked in its favor.
One of the key figures in Qin’s rise was Duke Xiao (r. 361–338 BCE), who implemented sweeping reforms with the help of his advisor Shang Yang. Shang Yang, a staunch advocate of Legalism, introduced policies that emphasized merit-based governance, agricultural development, and a powerful military structure. His reforms transformed Qin into a highly efficient and centralized state, strengthening its ability to compete with and eventually surpass its rivals. While Shang Yang's policies greatly benefited Qin, they also led to significant social hardships, as strict laws and severe punishments were imposed to maintain order.
Militarily, Qin adopted advanced tactics and weaponry, incorporating iron tools and crossbows that gave its armies a technological edge. The state also developed a well-organized conscription system, ensuring a steady supply of disciplined soldiers. Unlike some of the fragmented alliances among other states, Qin’s centralized command structure allowed for swift and decisive military campaigns. Under leaders such as King Huiwen and later King Zhaoxiang, Qin expanded its territory, securing vital strategic locations that set the stage for its final conquest.

Incorporating vivid hues, a palette of intriguing textures, and a scholarly understanding of exquisite objects, art, and furnishings, his work transcends period and milieu. His aesthetic spans the globe and the decades, from 18th-century English and European antiques to vintage French Modernism and the work of the finest international contemporary artisans. His projects, tailored and layered, are reminiscent of the stylish past, but always utterly up to date. With unfailing attention to scale, he is unafraid to wield a jolt of glamour or inject the unexpected, but never forgets that a room must ultimately reflect the genuine inner life of those who inhabit it.

It’s almost Bid’s birthday and Spid is worried. He wants it to be Bid’s best birthday ever because she is his most favourite spidling in the whole wide world. But there’s a problem. No matter how hard he thinks, he doesn’t have a single birthday present idea anywhere in his worried head …This audiobook features two songs: 'Birthday Girl' and 'It's My Birthday'. You can also find music videos of the songs at https://spidthespider.com and https://www.youtube.com/spidthespider. Spid is a lowly spider, who wants to better himself, write songs, and marry his girlfriend Bid, though he is prone to hilarious mishaps mostly of his own making. He is hard-working, cool, and a role model for young children. As well as encouraging children to read and love books, Spid's adventures also teach valuable life lessons, including determination and what psychologists call a 'growth mindset' (desire to better oneself and succeed), the importance of friendship, and sustainability. With very creative prose, Spid's adventures are fun for parents, and teachers to read to, and with, their children. They present lots of opportunities to invest dramatic licence thus helping adults and children interact and engage. The humour works at multiple levels from silly and slapstick to more sophisticated wordplay and concepts. Thus, children will discover more and enjoy reading the stories multiple times. Sharon Marie Tate Polanski (January 24, 1943 - August 9, 1969) was an American actress and model who appeared in advertisements and small television and film roles. After receiving positive reviews for her comedic and dramatic acting performances, Tate was hailed as one of Hollywood's most promising newcomers, being compared favorably with the late Marilyn Monroe. Her first major role was as Jennifer North in the 1967 American drama film Valley of the Dolls, which earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination. On August 9, 1969, Tate and four others were murdered by members of the Manson Family in the home she shared with Polanski, while he was away. She was eight-and-a-half months pregnant. The following audio clips are from 1966 and 1967.

An empowering, sex-positive guide to glamour magic with spells and fashion advice for all budgets and body types.Sophie Saint Thomas knows fashion and glamour and how to use them to make magic happen. “Vanity is not a sin,” she writes, “but a tool of power to be embraced. Costume is power, and through fashion, makeup, and other glamour magick tools, we can step into such power.”In Glamour Witch, Sophie offers a history of glamour magick from a modern perspective complete with a bounty of glamour magick spells. Her message is that not only can you have fun with your appearance—be it a sparkly David Bowie-esque getup or a laid-back wood nymph vibe—but you can also use glamour to express yourself and get what you want.People are turning to this form of self-care more than ever.Men are increasingly being included in wellness, fashion, and jewelry trends. It’s high time that more people know that you can use your dress for power before some idiot tries to use it against you (insert throwback to being called to the principal’s office for dress code violations).Embracing glamour and dress is no longer a tool of repression but a tool of expression—and this book will teach you how, at all price points and for all genders.
