  Sir Roger Bannister - born on March 23, 1929 - is an English former athlete best known for being the first to run the mile in less than four minutes, remarkably while practicing as a junior doctor. This was achieved on May 6, 1954, at Iffley Road Track in Oxford, with Chris Chataway and Chris Brasher providing the pacing. The resulting time was 3 min. 59.4 sec. 
  Retiring from running shortly after, Bannister went on to become a distinguished neurologist and an important contributor to research into the human nervous system. The following is Bannister's perspective on the famous race.

  We live in a day and age where most people travel through life with no direction or knowledge of what their actual purpose is. Through many trials and tribulations, I found out exactly who I am and my reasons for being placed on planet Earth. Your fears, anger, boredom, and addictions will always make their way to the surface, which creates uncertainty in the core of your being. Every person was once a young child with great big dreams...dreams of being the hero, of becoming something, or rising to the top doing daring feats like rescuing the damsel in distress. What happens to those dreams when we grow up? "What does today's man resemble?"Then look around, most people, especially men, are bored to struggle with self-confidence. 
  Life can be full of adventure, yet we were not placed on earth to figure this out on our own. We need to become crucial influencers and conscious men, take daring leaps and risks, go on unknown adventures, become mentors to our children and lead them out of uncertainty into a prosperous life. We need to be ready right now. 
  MariusVan Der Nist is a 10 X Ironman triathlon finisher, ex-international rugby union player, publisher of numerous international magazines, including 220Triathalon, Triathlete, Sport & Image magazines as well as author of It's Al About You.   The Berlin Wall - Its Beginnings...

  From 1961 until 1989, the Berlin Wall stood as a stark symbol of division, not only physically separating the city of Berlin but also representing the broader ideological rift between the East and the West during the Cold War. On August 13, 1961, the German Democratic Republic (GDR), or East Germany, began constructing this formidable barrier. The Wall effectively cut off West Berlin from the rest of East Germany, including East Berlin, solidifying the physical and ideological separation between the communist East and the capitalist West. 
  The structure itself was much more than just a wall; it was an elaborate system of fortifications. It included massive concrete walls, watchtowers, and a wide expanse known as the "death strip." This zone was equipped with anti-vehicle trenches, barbed wire, and other brutal defenses to prevent East Germans from escaping to the West. The Berlin Wall was not merely a barrier for the sake of separation; it was a powerful representation of the GDR's fear of its citizens escaping the supposedly superior socialist state.
