Beschreibung

A literary romance like no other – Kimberly Campanello’s debut novel unfurls over a hot Breton summer as American student K embarks on a love affair with a local.
Barred from using English by their French programme, the other Americans’ identities flicker and fade. Yet for K this dissolution opens space for profound transformation.
Heady and poetic, erotic and intelligent, this is a coming-of-age tale that reveals how coming-of-age – at its pinnacle – means coming alive. Alive to touch and taste, pleasure and ecstasy. To the sea, the sun and eternity.
Advanced Praise for Use the Words You Have...
'I love what this novel does with language... Read it like you'd eat a melting ice cream.'—Daisy Hildyard
‘A moving meditation on the capacity of language and love to shape us… saturated in sun and salt water, drenched in heat and longing.’—Jessica Andrews
‘Eroticism here is as much about discovering another’s body as it is about discovering the body through language. It’s Rimbaud, it’s Hélène Cixous, even a touch of Claudia Durastanti. But Campanello is entirely her own here.’—Jason Allen-Paisant
‘Composed in a delicate, aching space between nostalgia and desire, between the past and eternity, Use the Words You Have shimmers like light on a sea recollected across decades.’—Rob Doyle
‘It’s been a complete pleasure to read this… The restraint, clarity and precision of the writing is faultless.’—Joanna Walsh

As World War I erupted, Kuprin opened a military hospital but was then given command of an infantry company in Finland. He was soon discharged on grounds of ill health.
The October Revolution saw him praise Lenin, but he warned that the Bolsheviks threatened Russian culture and might cause further widespread suffering to the peasants. As Civil War raged he took his family to Helsinki and then on to Paris.
Exile saw his talents decline further and his succumbing to alcoholism. He became lonely and withdrawn. The family's poverty increased his malaise.
In May 1937, the Kuprin’s returned to Moscow. He now saw his work published but wrote almost nothing new. In 1938 his health rapidly deteriorated. Already suffering from a kidney problems and sclerosis, he had now developed cancer of the oesophagus.

The Mist meets a gritty prequel to The Elfstones of Shannara, The Infernal Age is a nail-biting take on the death of the modern world and the birth of something darker.
Gabriel, an ex-soldier-turned-project-manager with anger issues, is sent to a small town in New Mexico and charged with keeping a failed government experiment secret and stable. There he meets Tam, an oddly philosophical scientist, but as they settle into a bantering friendship, things go catastrophically wrong.
As the containment fails, the truth is revealed - the experiment has punched a hole through to another reality allowing demon-like aliens to pass through, bringing their realm’s laws of physics with them. The creatures rampage as all technology fails and many people begin to sicken and die. The duo meets the traumatized but resilient Ripley and together they embark on a quest to get vital data to the experiment’s authors. As they travel together, battle demons, give aid to some survivors and fight others, each of them realizes that they are manifesting unsettling powers which, while helping them, also threaten to estrange them from their humanity.
An apocalyptic blend of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, The Infernal Age - Demon Gate is book one of a debut series by author Anson Joaquín. Join Gabriel, Tam, and Ripley as they are confronted by the end of the world they knew and start their quest to set things right, or failing that, at least to stay alive… and stay human.
