A comic dialogue written in John Collier's idiosyncratic version of the 18th century South Lancashire dialect together with a collection of 19th century texts on Collier and his work. Egged on by Meary (Mary), Tummus (Thomas) recounts the series of misadventures that ensue when he makes a trip to Rochdale on an errand for his master. First published in 1746, the text grew over subsequent editions as Collier expanded the story, added a preface in which he berates publishers who had pirated his work, and inflated and amended his glossary. The text read here is the final version of the preface, dialogue and glossary, which appeared in an 1862 edition of Collier's works. Collier's texts are followed by several accounts of Collier's life and commentaries on his work, Elijah Riding's 1860 'plain English' translation of the Tummus and Meary text, and three poems set at Collier's graveside in Rochdale. (Summary by Phil Benson)

His quest for authentic experience leads him to the throes of addiction, virtuous recovery, and disenchanted notoriety as a public menace. When his attempts at courtship and romance falter, he inadvertently becomes the target of a team of elderly assassins — one blind, one deaf, and the other mute. Alongside his impulsive young office mate Roland, who chucks everything in the mistaken belief that he has won the lottery, Henrik becomes entangled with a pair of star-crossed, disenchanted lovebirds named Bonnie and Clyde who now want to kill each other. A look back at the year 2009 through over 400 editorial cartoons—including winners of the Pulitzer Prize, the Thomas Nast Prize, and other major awards. Full of clever commentary on the major events of 2009, this collection of more than 400 cartoons covers a range of topics and viewpoints from liberal to conservative. Pulitzer Prize winners and other leading editorial cartoonists cover, among other news, the Obama administration, the disastrous economic crash, government bailouts, and healthcare reform. These controversial subjects are presented with quick wit, sharp observation, and a healthy dose of humor in this book, part of the series of annuals first published over fifty years ago. From Sarah Palin to Rod Blagojevich, many politicians make appearances—as do figures from sports, media, foreign affairs, and more. No subjects are off limits, and all mistakes and failures are fair game, because even if history repeats itself, there is often someone new to blame for it. Praise for the series “Powerful and pointed.” —International Journal of Comic Art “The value of this series grows right along with it as the chronicle of the ‘hot’ topics of each year.” —East Texas Historical Association

From the Amazon charts bestselling author of Five French Hens and The Old Girls' Network comes a story of two sisters in their golden years embarking on the holiday of a lifetime, to find love, friendship and new adventures.
Molly’s seventieth birthday comes as a shock. The woman in the mirror looks every day of those seventy years, but inside Molly feels she still has so much more living left to do. Widowed and living alone with her cat, Molly fears she is slipping into a cliché of old age.
When Molly’s sister Nell appears on her doorstep, distraught that her husband of more than forty years, Phil, has left her for a younger lover, the women decide to seize the day. By the morning, flights are booked, bags are packed, and they're off to Spain.
The sun, the sea, the new friends and the freedom are just the tonic for broken hearts and flagging souls. But even Spain isn’t enough to revive Molly’s spirit so she decides to head off for a solo journey to continue to chase the sun and to chase happiness. Will she find what she’s looking for in a new country, or will she discover that true contentment can’t be found on a map? But it might just be found in a new flame...
Judy Leigh is back, with her trademark spirit of joie de vivre, fun, warmth and timeless lessons in how to live. Perfect for fans of Debbie Macomber and Robyn Carr.
