Beschreibung

It was the 1860's before Jacob Waltz was ever known as the famous Dutchman of "Lost Dutchman's" fame. When the young prospector followed his golden Odyssey toward Arizona, he had no way of knowing that decision would lead to the discovery of more gold in the Superstition Mountains than any single lone miner ever found. Thugs, thieves and outlaws were a constant threat for him. They would follow him into the mountains attempting to locate his gold mine. Jacob would always out-fox them and was able to keep the exact location of the mine safe. On one occasion, two outlaws were successful in finding him on his way from the mine back to the city. They beat him almost to death and stole his gold and left him for dead. The next day the travels of an old west contemporary called "The Colonel" brought him into Jacob's path. The Colonel was able to feed and water Jacob and get him back to health. The two became best friends overnight.

The Virgin Suicides meets The Florida Project in this wildly original debut—a coming-of-age story about the crucible of girlhood, from a writer of rare and startling talent

We would not be born out of sweetness, we were born out of rage, we felt it in our bones.

In Falls Landing, Florida—a place built of theme parks, swampy lakes, and scorched bougainvillea flowers—something sinister lurks in the deep. A gang of thirteen-year-old girls obsessively orbit around the local preacher's daughter, Sammy. She is mesmerizing, older, and in love with Eddie. But suddenly, Sammy goes missing. Where is she? Watching from a distance, they edge ever closer to discovering a dark secret about their fame-hungry town and the cruel cost of a ticket out. What they see will continue to haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Through a darkly beautiful and brutally compelling lens, Dizz Tate captures the violence, horrors, and manic joys of girlhood. Brutes is a novel about the seemingly unbreakable bonds in the "we" of young friendship, and the moment it is broken forever.

Laird Barron's acclaimed crime saga makes a triumphant return in The Wind Began to Howl, an all-new story set after the events of Worse Angels. A seemingly benign case gradually pulls mob enforcer-turned-PI Isaiah Coleridge into a chilling mix of music, movie magic, mayhem, and madness.

This time, Coleridge's dark journey forces him to confront a brutal truth: For some who try to escape the past, there is no way out.

"Hardboiled and trippy at the same time, The Wind Began to Howl by Laird Barron is a twisted ride through the darker recesses of the mind complete with conspiracy theories, ex-government operatives, movie madness, and possibly a portal into another dimension." —Alma Katsu, author of The Fervor

"Isaiah Coleridge hits back hard in this bare-knuckle novella that's equal parts Hollyweird fiction and conspiracy-laden Catskills noir." —Clay McLeod Chapman, author of Ghost Eaters

What he didn't realize was I had the devil on my side.

He tried to destroy my life and everything I loved.
But I grew up in a different part of town. And where I was from, we protected our own.

A siren pop star with a stalker problem, a gargoyle bodyguard with a heart of stone, and a completely unexpected wedding weekend.

Life has been a whirlwind since my debut album dropped, but not all of it is the good kind. Turns out, audiences aren't the only thing I'm attracting—I've got a stalker. My manager insists I need protection, and before I know it, there's a big, hunky gargoyle bodyguard at my door.

Graeme is my polar opposite in every way. He's a massive grump who seems to think smiling is against his job description. The man is all business, no pleasure. And my free-spirited nature seems to be getting under his stone-cold skin.

I can't figure out if I want to punch him or kiss him!

Unfortunately, my sour new shadow has to come with me to Elderberry Falls for my best friend's wedding weekend. And what's worse . . . it seems like my stalker has come too.

With danger lurking closer than I realized, I may have to trust Graeme with more than just my safety . . .

What happens when artificial intelligence comes for the novelists? Death of an Author is a groundbreaking, suspenseful experiment in the meta world of man meets machine.

When Gus Dupin, literary critic and scholar, finds himself invited to the funeral of Peggy Firmin, celebrated novelist and now murder victim, he is determined to find out who killed her and why. As his investigation gets underway, it is not long before he finds himself at the center of an experiment at Marlow AI, a large language model company.

Why was he included in this experiment and what role did Firmin play? Further, why is Dupin suddenly a suspect in Firmin’s murder? And worse: is he the next victim? As Dupin attempts to unravel the mystery of the death of his favorite author, listeners find themselves in an alternate reality that raises a sinister question: what is the appropriate relationship between humans and machines and is murder the consequence when it goes too far?

A revolution in narrative and an unprecedented use of Artificial Intelligence, Death of an Author is a masterful and stunning examination of the nature of storytelling and the power of language.
