Beschreibung

It was the 1860's before Jacob Waltz was ever known as the famous Dutchman of "Lost Dutchman's" fame. When the young prospector followed his golden Odyssey toward Arizona, he had no way of knowing that decision would lead to the discovery of more gold in the Superstition Mountains than any single lone miner ever found. Thugs, thieves and outlaws were a constant threat for him. They would follow him into the mountains attempting to locate his gold mine. Jacob would always out-fox them and was able to keep the exact location of the mine safe. On one occasion, two outlaws were successful in finding him on his way from the mine back to the city. They beat him almost to death and stole his gold and left him for dead. The next day the travels of an old west contemporary called "The Colonel" brought him into Jacob's path. The Colonel was able to feed and water Jacob and get him back to health. The two became best friends overnight.

    DEADLY SECRETS FROM A TAINTED PAST . . .

Esme Quentin's arrival in north Devon is marred by the gruesome discovery of a fatally injured woman at the foot of Warren Cliff. Esme is troubled by the woman's final words and curious about the old photograph clutched in her hand. The police, however, dismiss Bella Shaw's death as accidental.

But Bella's daughter, Neave, has her own questions and approaches Esme for help. The subsequent trail leads Esme back to the brutal penal history of nineteenth century England and the mystery of a Devon convict girl transported to Australia for her crime.

As evidence of betrayal and duplicity are revealed, Esme discovers Bella's link to events in the past—a link which now endangers Neave and, by association, Esme. A legacy of hatred which has festered for generations in the "land beyond the seas" now threatens to spill over on to Devon soil with devastating consequences.

Drawn together by the future, torn apart by the past.

Being a single mom was never the plan for Lauren. Neither was having a baby in a car all alone on a gridlocked interstate. Thank goodness for sexy cops who are heroes even on their days off.

One of the good guys—or at least trying to be—Isaac can't get the woman whose baby he helped deliver out of his head. He sees it all with Lauren. A life. A family. A future. But superstition and a family curse have her rebuffing him, even though she looks at him with a need that mirrors his own.

When Lauren finally gives into her heart, the passion between them explodes. Life isn't just good, it's great. Until Isaac realizes their history is connected in a way he never expected. He ruined her life without even knowing it.

Can he confess the truth to Lauren without hurting the one person who has finally made him feel human again? Without demolishing her world, and his, in the process?
