Synopsis

A chilling twist on the haunted-house story as five strangers resolve to spend two weeks in an abandoned, high-rise urban housing project that even gang lords and crack dealers avoid . . . Chicago’s Dreamland Housing Project was created to give people with nothing a second chance. Like so many ill-conceived dreams of its time, eventually the project fell into disrepair and disrepute, just another slum ruled by the gangs and the drug dealers. But there was one building in the complex that contained an evil far fouler than the kind running the streets. Here eerie sounds emanated nightly from the elevator shafts and the shadows at the far end of the hallways, and inexplicable, fatal “accidents” were the norm. Here human blood regularly soaked the walls and cheap carpeting as rapists and murderers ran rampant, though none could remember their dark deeds afterward. Now, decades later, Dreamland is empty of its residents and mostly demolished. But one building still stands, thanks to billionaire Ramsey Lomax, who won’t let the city raze the last and most notorious tower until he is done with it. Along with four willing strangers—a writer, an ex-cop, a doctor, and a psychic, each with a reason for participating—Lomax intends to spend two weeks living in the abandoned tower to see if the legends are real. But nothing can prepare these five for the terror they encounter once the front door slams behind them, trapping them all inside. Because in Dreamland, every nightmare comes true.

A perfect story for fans of Gaiman and Pratchett's GOOD OMENS, SHAUN OF THE DEAD and THE WORLD'S END.
Arthur Crazy is drunk and seeing ghosts.

This is not a metaphor. The dead are walking and talking, and it doesn't matter that Arthur doesn't believe in them. They believe in him.

Too drunk to recall how he stumbled upon his nascent power, Arthur is burdened with newfound responsibility: he's the only one who can hear the unfinished business of every dead guy in York, and he's the only one who can help.

As forgotten legends and lost demons stir all over the cobbled streets and snickelways, Arthur finds himself at the centre of an unfolding mystery—a light in the desert, a fart at a funeral—and he is about to discover that an unfortunate surname isn't the only thing that makes him stand out.

Arthur just wants to sober up, have a kebab, and go home, but his conscience is knocking loud and clear, demanding he open the damn door. He may not be the hero the dead need, but he's the one they're stuck with. Besides, one of those ghosts seems kind of cute.

Within the mysterious confines of Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood, Prudence Osgood, 45, queer AF, tormented by chronic pain, opioid addiction, and a tempestuous relationship with alcohol, captains The Spectral Inspectors—an ensemble of ghost hunters, each wrestling with their inner ghosts. In Osgood as She Gets, the third installment of The Spectral Inspector series, a sinister phenomenon known as The Graveyard Game emerges, drawing in fearless teenagers who dare to confront their own mortality by gazing into the hooded statue's eyes. As suicides surge, a chilling question arises: Is this disturbing game to blame, or does it have a connection to the elusive North Side Slasher? With time running out, The Spectral Inspectors must unravel the mystery that threatens their beloved city.
Osgood as She Gets delves deep into themes of regret, survivor's guilt, the relentless fight for survival, and the haunting art of letting go. With a tone that balances moments of light-heartedness and warmth with periods of profound introspection and spine-tingling terror, this novel invites you to join Osgood, Audrey, and Zack as they navigate the twisted realms of the supernatural. Can they unearth the truth before the shadows swallow them whole?
Reviewers are calling Osgood as She Gets "A trippy, cosmical joyride grappling with terror, pain, guilt, and bad decisions," "An engaging and grisly caper," "deeply chilling, yet profoundly human," and "A haunting, dream-like urban fantasy that stings and satisfies like a bitter-sweet shot of whiskey," and main character Prudence Osgood "a protagonist for the ages: bold, brash and absolutely captivating," "a lovable disaster," and "the bad habit you didn't know you needed." They say of writer Beckett that he "writes with the accessibility and charm of Stephen King, but with the queer knowledge and language to appeal to an often-ignored audience."
