Imagine you are sick of the government. Bureaucrats and aristocrats are constantly telling you what to do, basically enforcing a totalitarian regime. Maybe this is not so hard to imagine after what has been happening in recent years. And then imagine you protest. But the government has come up with a new method to kill people: The guillotine. Way more efficient than simple beheading, some jerk at the top then decides that anyone who is suspicious of rebellion needs their head chopped off, like the crazy lady in Alice in Wonderland.
This is Robespierre’s legacy. The evil French guy knew hardly any boundaries. He was vicious, murderous, and not to be taken lightly.
One of the most widely known figures of the Reign of terror was Maximilien François Marie Isidore de Robespierre, a French attorney and statesman. He promoted universal manhood suffrage and the removal of both clergy celibacy and oppression as a member of the Constituent Assembly and the Jacobin Club. In 1791, Robespierre ended up being a singing advocate of male residents without a political voice, promoting for their limitless entry to the National Guard, public workplaces, and the right to bear arms in self-defense. Robespierre was a key figure in the agitation that led to the deposition of the French monarchy on August tenth, 1792, and the assembling of a National Convention. His purpose was to establish a single, indivisible France, equality before the law, the abolition of authorities, and the defense of direct democratic ideal visions.

This program is read by the author with a special appearance from his mom.An intimate and light-hearted memoir by viral sensation and three-time Emmy-nominated musical comedian Randy Rainbow that takes readers through his life—the highs, the lows, the lipstick, the pink glasses, and the show tunes.Randy Rainbow, the man who conquered the Internet with a stylish pair of pink glasses, an inexhaustible knowledge of Broadway musicals, and the most gimlet-eyed view of American politics this side of Mark Twain finally tells all in Playing with Myself, a memoir sure to cause more than a few readers to begin singing one of his greatest hits like “A Spoonful of Clorox” or “Cover Your Freakin’ Face.”As Randy has said, “There’s so much fake news out there about me. I can’t wait to set the record straight and finally give people a peek behind the green screen.” And set the record straight he does. Playing with Myself is a first-hand account of the journey that led Randy Rainbow from his childhood as the over-imaginative, often misunderstood little boy who carried a purse in the second grade to his first job on Broadway as the host at Hooters and on to the creation of his trademark comedy character. In chapters titled “Pajama Bottoms” (a look back at the days when he wore pajama bottoms on his head to pretend he was Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz), “Yes, It’s My Real Name, Shut Up!” (no explanation necessary...) and “Pink Glasses” (a rose-colored homage to his favorite accessory), Playing with Myself is a memoir that answers the question “Can an introverted musical theatre nerd with a MacBook and a dream save the world, one show tune at a time?”A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin's Press.

An illuminating exploration of 31 incredible women—across art, architecture, dance, literature, and more—whose culture-defining contributions have, until now, been overshadowed by their role as "muses" to history's better-known men.  What does it mean to be someone's "muse"? Historically, to be called a “muse” among artistic circles has been marketed as a flattering title. It is a commendation that most often refers to a woman whose vivacity and beauty are the source of inspiration for a (usually) male artist or creator. Perhaps her inspiring presence is even credited in the story of his success. But the very concept of a muse underestimates these women and their abilities. At its root, muse is a support role, the title a consolation prize that claims to recognize a woman’s greatness—but only in her support of another.I'm Not Your Muse reclaims the narrative of 31 of these extraordinary women, from "The Mother of the Movies" Alice Guy-Blaché to Modernist designer Eileen Gray, prima ballerina Maria Tallchief, storied Harlem Renaissance editor Jessie Redmon Fauset, and many more. Each of these women advanced the narrative of culture and society, pushing the boundaries of visual arts, dance and movement, commercial architecture, music, journalism, and the performing arts. Whether by historical accident or cruel design, their contributions have historically been overshadowed by those of their male counterparts, and often collaborators. In this briskly written, incisively researched compendium, author and researcher Lori Zimmer repositions these women as the main characters of their own lives. Each profile is accented with original illustrations—including jaunty portraits in playfully constructed frames—by artist Maria Krasinski. Together, they highlight the contemporary accomplishments and historical legacies of a wide-ranging group of revolutionary women. Featured women include: Louise Blanchard Bethune Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore Minnette de Silva Clara Driscoll Jessie Redmon Fauset Loie Fuller Martha Gellhorn    Eileen Gray Belle da Costa Greene Alice Guy-Blaché Miss La La Edmonia Lewis Neysa McMein Hildreth Meière Lucia Moholy May and Jane Morris    Na Hye-Sŏk Fernande Olivier Pan Yuliang    Ethel Reed    Clara Rockmore    Ada Bricktop Smith Maria Tallchief Alice B. Troublemaker - A Memoir of...

Lisa Cornwell never shied away from standing up to bullies. When she was a freshman in college, she saw a man hit a woman in the face with a closed fist while a paralyzed crowd stood by and watched. Seconds later, she took matters into her own hands—with a 3-iron from her golf bag.

This impulse crystallized years later when Cornwell publicly spoke out against the misogynistic culture she and others experienced at the hands of their employer, Golf Channel/NBCUniversal. Throughout her time at the network, she challenged the toxic environment and was quickly branded a "troublemaker"—a label that often accompanies women who refuse to play by an antiquated set of rules.

In this authentic and unreserved memoir, which includes a powerful foreword from Hillary Rodham Clinton, Cornwell takes listeners inside the boys' club of sports media and reveals the way powerful corporations cover up wrongdoings. For her, what began with retaliation exploded into a public smear campaign and, ultimately, her dismissal. She also shares the unlikely yet formative touchstones of her life: a close friendship with Tiger Woods when both were nationally ranked junior golfers; her cousin, Bill Clinton, being elected President of the United States; and the private demons she battled as a young adult that almost cost her everything.

Note: Listeners can access the foreword by Hillary Rodham Clinton in the bonus PDF accompanying this audiobook.
