"Persuasion" by Jane Austen is a novel set in the early 19th century. The story centers around Anne Elliot, the quiet yet perceptive daughter of Sir Walter Elliot, a vain baronet struggling with financial difficulties and the threat to his social status. The novel delves into themes of love, regret, and societal pressures, particularly through Anne's past romance with Captain Frederick Wentworth, a man without fortune or title whom her family disapproved of.
At the beginning of the book, we meet Sir Walter Elliot, who is completely absorbed in his vanity and status as a baronet, while ignoring the significant financial problems threatening their estate, Kellynch Hall. The narrative unfolds the dynamics within the Elliot family, especially highlighting Anne's delicate position, which is overshadowed by her more socially ambitious sisters and overlooked by her father.
The opening establishes Anne's sense of duty as well as her longing for a life that truly recognizes her character and feelings, setting the stage for the complex emotional struggles she faces as the story progresses and explores her potential reconnection with Wentworth, who is now a successful naval captain. This sets the foundation for Anne's journey of self-discovery amid the entanglements of family, friendship, and social standings.

In this kaleidoscopic voyage through the past, present, and future of the United States, a young girl uncovers a secret society, a middle-aged man searches for his lost first love, a group of teens invent a role-playing game, protests threaten to topple the government, and an eccentric lawyer and his young Vietnamese protégée re-open a dormant case.
This atmospheric tale, at turns gothic, poetic, cerebral, and funny, ranges from rural Upstate New York to the far reaches of the Zebulon Galaxy; from the 1700s to the 4th decade of the 21st century. Includes 66 full-page b&w illustrations by the author, maps, an Appendix with a Timeline, and a Reading Group Guide.

In a near-future America, on the eve of revolution, a message pops up on a screen, “Can you help me?”—then it, and its sender, June, disappear.
June’s disappearance prompts a visit back to the narrator’s rural, Upstate New York hometown, and a reconstruction of their shared past in the early 90s, when he and his group of friends created their own roleplaying adventure in a clubhouse on a dilapidating farm.
It was June’s entry into their group that made all their game-playing real, and embroiled the teens in a great mystery, starting with the strange, serpent-headed key that flashed gold on custodian Clyde Duane’s copious key ring, and spiraled outward—connecting their town’s hidden past to a movement that could change everything about the way we live.
Populated by a fantastic cast of characters, this captivating book stands at the intersection of philosophy and adventure.

The day starts like any other, venturing into spider-bear territory to rescue Bennie’s sister.
Turns out there’s a lot of space that the Peacekeepers don’t go near, go figure spider-bear territory is on that list.
And that’s just the start of their adventure. Things get interesting, quick!
By interesting, I mean horrifying of course.
Their old friend Xarrix calls with a job. A job that sounds straightforward and easy. That should have been their first clue. With nothing else on their plates, the crew of the Ghost finds themselves in a sector of space deemed “untamable” by the Galactic Commonwealth, working with a warlord with some pretty big plans. That should have been the second clue.
Too bad none of the crew are detectives.
Learning from his past dealings with the crew of the Ghost, Xarrix assigns one of his own to stay aboard the Ghost to keep an eye on the crew and make sure they behave themselves as if that was possible.
What’s worse is it’s someone the team knows and don’t particularly like.
And then there’s the space battles and grilled cheese.
