"Seven-year-old Nate Saint peered wide-eyed over the cockpit of his older brother Sam's Challenger biplane. The eastern Pennsylvania countryside was spread out neatly below him like a fine tablecloth. Nate was determined to remember every moment of this first high-flying adventure." Flying soon captured Nate's heart. His air service ministry to isolated missionaries put him on a path of destiny that would ultimately end with a final airplane flight with 4 missionary friends to the "Palm Beach" landing strip in the jungles of Ecuador. The men's lives given that day not only opened a door to the gospel for the unreached "Acucas"; it has been said that possibly no single event of the twentieth century awakened more hearts to God's call to serve in missions.

I have strung these things together on a slight enough thread; but as the things themselves are slight, it is possible that the thread (and the metaphor) may manage to hang together. These notes range over very variegated topics and in many cases were made at very different times. They concern all sorts of things from lady barristers to cave-men, and from psycho-analysis to free verse. Yet they have this amount of unity in their wandering, that they all imply that it is only a more traditional spirit that is truly able to wander. The wild theorists of our time are quite unable to wander. When they talk of making new roads, they are only making new ruts. Each of them is necessarily imprisoned in his own curious cosmos; in other words, he is limited by the very largeness of his own generalization. The explanations of the Marxian must not go outside economics; and the student of Freud is forbidden to forget sex. To see only the fanciful side of these serious sects may seem a very frivolous pleasure—and I will not dispute that these are very frivolous criticisms. I only submit that this frivolity is the last lingering form of freedom.

Star and executive producer of the hit TV show Bar Rescue and New York Times bestselling author of Don't Bullsh*t Yourself, Jon Taffer reveals the transformational power of conflict, sharing his toolkit for arguing smarter—at home, at work, and in life.

Most people try their best to avoid conflict. Bar Rescue host Jon Taffer understands that. Conflict can have negative results. It’s easy to think that the key to a happy workplace or marriage is to avoid conflict. In reality, that’s not the case—the key is to argue smarter.
Enter the Toolkit for Getting Conflict Right. Taffer’s approach is focused on deliberate conflict—otherwise known as “conflict with a purpose.” There are selective and strategic ways to have difficult conversations, and when doing so, to stay aware of your objectives rather than escalating tension unnecessarily. As Taffer explains, “The key is to act affirmatively, constructively, and productively.” Eliminating conflict isn’t always the answer; inevitably there will be times when it will arise. Engaging in conflict can be a way to clear the air, and get to the bottom of issues that, once resolved, can strengthen friendships, ease tensions at work, and address problems before they have a chance to bubble over.
With easy-to-follow advice that shows how to best engage in constructive discourse to get the results you want, The Power of Conflict provides you with the rules to argue smarter, uphold your values, and keep the conversation real. The step-by-step guide starts with the inception of the conflict and carries through the difficult conversation’s conclusion, arming readers with the skills and confidence to fight for their principles.

An engaging and very funny autobiography of a New Zealand baby boomer, “Pic” tells the story of a privileged teenager unimpressed by the blandishments of a convention life. He taught himself leatherwork and handmade sandals and bags supported a nomadic, barefoot lifestyle that spanned small town New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, the hippy trail across Noth America and a winter sharing a derelict tenement with the homeless of London.
His arrival back in New Zealand earned him a fortnight in a psychiatric ward and encounter group marathons at the newly formed Centrepoint, before joining an isolated Coromandel commune. A chance meeting with an English woodworker saw him become a fine furniture maker, before financial exigencies turned him into a tawdry giftware manufacturer. His “Panic Packs”, glass-fronted emergency boxes filled with cigarettes or condoms, tea bags or vibrators, and his Cannabis Fertiliser found their way into many New Zealander’s Christmas stockings before he chucked it in, built a yacht and sailed off into the Pacific.
A second divorce, a restaurant, a charter boat directory and a sailing school filled his forties when deteriorating eyesight pushed him towards retirement. At fifty five, disgusted by the arrival of sugared peanut butter in NZ, he made a few jars of his own in a converted concrete mixer.
Pic’s Peanut Butter developed a cult following that forced him to continually grow production, commissioning four new factories in ten years. The last, Pic’s Peanut Butter World, becoming a significant tourist destination, employing 55 people and producing 25000 jars a day.
This is a refreshingly different kind of business book. One man’s life story, told with generousity and humour. His business success appears to surprise no one more than himself, but Pic’s stories and observations provide a genuine insight into the meaning and practice of entrepreneurship.

The Gallipoli campaign was launched in April 1915 in an effort to knock Turkey out of the war but the force that was deployed was too small to achieve its aim. Moreover, the commander, General Sir Ian Hamilton was at fault in the way he conducted his campaign. Never happier than when he was in the thick of action, Hamilton was an excellent tactician but, by 1915, and in a situation like Gallipoli, his style of leadership was outdated. This book examines why Hamilton failed at Gallipoli and shows how, in spite of that failure and it being his last command, he became a well-respected military prophet who many several perceptive predictions about the future of warfare.
