Beschreibung

This edition includes the following editor's introduction: Edith Wharton, the feminism of a Pulitzer Prize winner

Originally published in 1925, "The Mother’s Recompense" is one of the last novels by the American writer Edith Wharton.

Opening on the French Riviera among a motley community of American expatriates, "The Mother's Recompense" tells the story of Kate Clephane and her reluctant return to New York society after being exiled years before for abandoning her husband and infant daughter. Curiously, Kate has been summoned back by that same daughter, Anne, now fully grown and intent on marrying Chris Fenno, a war hero, dilettante, and social opportunist. Chris's questionable intentions toward her daughter are, however, the least of Kate's worries since she was once, and still is, deeply in love with him.

Kate's moral quandary and the ensuing drama evoke comparison with “Oedipus” and “Hamlet” and lead to an ending that startled the mores of the day.

Do You Remember Your First Love?
The butterflies in your stomach, the sleepless nights, and that all-consuming feeling that takes over your entire being. Join Stig as he journeys back to the summer of 1986 and steps into the heart of Malta – and the heart of life itself. A holiday where the bonds between the boys are as strong as the scorching Mediterranean sun, and where love appears like an unexpected wave, washing everything else away.
This moving tale, based on a true story, invites you into a time and place where everything seemed possible. A time when the golden walls of Mdina held secret whispers, and a young boy’s first encounter with love left an everlasting mark.
Woven with humor, friendship, and blossoming emotions, this story reminds us that the most important moments in life never fade – they live on within us.
A book about the magic of youth, the first great love, and a summer never to be forgotten. Get ready to relive your own first crush as you’re swept away by the beauty of Malta and the memories that never fade.
"Do you remember those holiday crushes? Those moments when you wished time would stand still. Meeting a girl or boy who might have come from a completely different part of the country – or maybe even from abroad. Something that left a lasting impression. These very feelings are at the heart of Stig Ulrichsen’s charming and entertaining new book. It’s the perfect read for a relaxing afternoon at the beach – whether you’re in Malta, Mallorca, or at a campsite in Southern Jutland. A story that leaves the reader in a cheerful mood, perhaps sending you back in time to your own youth." - Jacob Krogsoe
"A great book – I’m especially impressed by the way you capture the era and the atmosphere so vividly that I can not only feel it, but also reflect parts of my own life in it. It’s quite sensory. And above all, it’s a deeply moving story." – Jan Eriksen

Each of the three seeds in this story?a cherry seed in the Middle East, an acacia seed in Australia, a lotus seed in Asia?survives a difficult journey through flood, fire, or drought, then sprouts (in the case of the lotus seed, a hundred years later) and flourishes. To author Stephie Morton, nature's powerful forces are a metaphor for the hardships faced by displaced children. Kids, like seeds, thrive when given a chance.

This is the second of six audiobooks in the series, the others will become available in the very near future and I do hope you enjoy this second installment, and it's only $3.
I have worked very hard and meticulously to provide you with an enjoyable experience, the initial opening credit music which does run to approximately 2 minutes sets the scene, so to speak, harp, violin, glockenspiel in a classical but uplifting form. The closing music ends the tale on a more restrained note and at about 2 minutes and the same musical instruments but more dreamy and ethereal effect. The actual story runs 13 minutes.
Here are the chapters and parts of the story: The Enchanted Grove of Lumina –
