Beschreibung

This engrossing alternative history novel, ‘Taliban UK’, is a remarkable imaginative feat. A young Christian man is murdered by his Muslim girlfriend's father that leads to a manhunt and trial at the Old Bailey where he receives a long prison sentence. The head of the new Middle Eastern state of Qarrini issues threats for his release and launches two devices, one of which kills the Royal family but not a love child. The country is taken over by the Taliban and members of the government are taken into captivity. The new Taliban UK republic is run by an English Taliban quisling who divides the country into communes, the heterosexual half and the gay half. Show trials are arranged as Christianity has been banned and those who are found are executed. One of the aspiring members on his way back from the local headquarters by car sees a US aircraft crash nearby that is dropping off munitions by parachute for local insurgents. Teaming up with one of the Americans, they escape from the commune and meet up with the insurgents and journey to London where they meet up with other insurgents and the Royal love child. They are rescued by US forces patrolling in the high seas and escape.

"Chess Story," also known as "The Royal Game," is Stefan Zweig's compelling novella that unfolds on a passenger steamer. It narrates the psychological duel between Mirko Czentovic, a chess champion with a mysterious past, and Dr. B, a reclusive genius. Set against the backdrop of World War II, the story explores themes of isolation, obsession, and the struggle for intellectual sanity.
As the chess game intensifies, so do the inner battles of the characters, revealing the profound impact of mental stress and obsession. Zweig's sharp and immersive prose draws readers into a world where a simple game reflects the complex nature of the human psyche. "Chess Story" is a testament to the enduring power of the mind and the game that challenges it, making it a riveting read that's both intellectually and emotionally charged.

When Juno Browne purchased a car for her lover, Daniel Thorncroft, she was not expecting that the previous owner would lock a dead body in the boot. Who the dead man could be is a persistent question, as is the whereabouts of the seller, Amber Horrell. While Inspector Ford and the Ashburton police are on the case, Juno's insatiable curiosity and concern for the missing Amber lead her to start sleuthing on her own. It turns out that the Horrells, Amber's family, are notorious in this corner of Devon, with an ancient murder and vanishing red diamond in their past and a shady antiques business very much in their present. With a second murder, Juno's involvement in the investigation becomes more complicated and the line between reality and fiction also become blurred. But the truth, she discovers, is far more complicated than it seems.

Kathy and her sister, Samantha, have always been a team. Throughout their time as witches, they’ve taken out more than their share of bad guys. But after Kathy meets Will, who she learns is a demonic Dark Knight, her loyalties begin to change.
Meanwhile, Samantha doesn’t trust Will or his intentions. Still, Kathy can’t help but feel tempted by the dark side as she falls deeper in love with Will. Crossing over would give Kathy the freedom to do whatever she wanted with her magic. No rules. No limitations. It would also mean breaking the bond she has always shared with her sister, who has made it clear that she wants nothing to do with the dark side.
When Will proposes they take over the underworld, Kathy loves the idea of having power. But it also leaves her with a choice that will change her life: abandon her family and the life she has always known, or give up the love of her life forever.
The Full Moon is the first book in the Under the Moon series, which is a part of the Art of Magic universe, containing the Lost By Magic and the Coven series.

Victor-Marie Hugo (26 February 1802 - 22 May 1885) was a French poet, novelist, essayist, playwright, and dramatist of the Romantic movement. During a literary career that spanned more than sixty years, he wrote abundantly in an exceptional variety of genres: lyrics, satires, epics, philosophical poems, epigrams, novels, history, critical essays, political speeches, funeral orations, diaries, and letters public and private, as well as dramas in verse and prose.
BOOK 9: SUPREME SHADOW, SUPREME DAWN: It is a terrible thing to be happy! How content one is! How all-sufficient one finds it! How, being in possession of the false object of life, happiness, one forgets the true object, duty! Let us say, however, that the reader would do wrong were he to blame Marius.
