'One of the most talented and considered minds working in women's football today' THE ATHLETIC
'The perfect person to guide us through the constantly changing landscape of women's football' KELLY CATES
'One of the most prolific writers about women’s football in the UK' EVENING STANDARD
Before Mary Earps, Jess Fishlock, and Lucy Bronze, there were the trailblazers who defied the odds.
In 1921, the FA banned women from playing football, but these rebels refused to quit. Leaving behind jobs, families, and their homeland, they sought opportunities abroad, where they could fulfil their footballing potential.
This book uncovers the untold stories of those pioneering women who paved the way for today’s stars. The original Lioness who started a new life in the Netherlands as a teenager, the first woman of colour to play for England, the girl who gave up the chance of international recognition to play in Italy – through their reflections, we explore their extraordinary journeys, the evolution of women’s football, and the dreams they still hold for the future.

In The Fifty-Year Seduction, Keith Dunnavant shows how television helped shape the modern sport--on and off the field. For more than a half century, television has played a primary role in securing college football's place as one of America's most popular spectator sports. But it has also been the common denominator in the sport's rise as a big business. Television, which multiplied the number of people who cared about the game, simultaneously increased the stakes. The colleges, who once feared television's ability to create free tickets, gradually became addicted to its charms. Through the years, the medium manufactured money, greed, dependence, and envy; altered the recruiting process, eventually forcing the colleges to compete with the irresistible force of National Football League riches; aided the National Collegiate Athletic Association's explosion from impotent union to massive bureaucracy; manipulated the rise and fall of the College Football Association; fomented the realignment of conferences; and seized control of the post-season bowl games, including the formation of the lucrative and controversial Bowl Championship Series. In painstaking detail, the author chronicles five decades of tension and conflict, from the 1951 television dispute that empowered the modern NCAA to the inevitable backlash, culminating with the landmark Supreme Court decision that set the stage for the conference-swapping machinations of the 1990s and beyond.

    The Overseas Basketball...

Since I started my website DreAllDay.com, along with all the YouTube videos, I have received many requests from players on playing pro basketball. And since the NBA has only so many positions, most of you know that overseas ball is a stronger possibility for you to continue your playing career, and it is: the NBA has 450 job positions while there are 10,000 players employed internationally (which includes Canada and Central and South America, which technically do not require going "over a sea" to get to, in case you cared).
Over the years I have compiled several guides and tips for players on how to get their careers started, what to expect on the way and once they are in the door, and how to handle themselves with the on- and off-court situations that come with it. Every guide comes from questions that players frequently ask me.
This guidebook is a compilation of all of those guides and tips in one place for your quick and easy reference. It should be noted that several, though not all, of the chapters of this book are based on the posts on the Guides & Tips page of my website, edited and updated for this guidebook.
If you take only one thing from this guidebook, know that professional basketball is a buyer's market: There are more candidates than there are jobs, so the people who do the hiring - the teams themselves - have the power. What this means for you is you need to make yourself stand out.

    Ice with Everything - In...

    H.W. Tilman

'For most men, as Epicurus has remarked, rest is stagnation and activity madness. Mad or not, the activity that I have been pursuing for the last twenty years takes the form of voyages to remote, mountainous regions.'
H.W. 'Bill' Tilman's fourteenth book describes three more of those voyages, 'the first comparatively humdrum, the second totally disastrous, and the third exceedingly troublesome'.
The first voyage describes Tilman's 1971 attempt to reach East Greenland's remote and ice-bound Scoresby Sound. The largest fjord system in the world was named after the father of Whitby whaling captain, William Scoresby, who first charted the coastline in 1822. Scoresby's two-volume Account of the Arctic Regions provided much of the historical inspiration for Tilman's northern voyages and fuelled his fascination with Scoresby Sound and the unclimbed mountains at its head.
Tilman's first attempt to reach the fjord had already cost him his first boat, Mischief, in 1968. The following year, a 'polite mutiny' aboard Sea Breeze had forced him to turn back within sight of the entrance, so with a good crew aboard in 1971, it was particularly frustrating for Tilman to find the fjord blocked once more, this time by impenetrable sea ice at the entrance.
Refusing to give up, Tilman's obsession with Scoresby Sound continued in 1972 when a series of unfortunate events led to the loss of Sea Breeze, crushed between a rock and an ice floe.
Safely back home in Wales, the inevitable search for a new boat began. 'One cannot buy a biggish boat as if buying a piece of soap. The act is almost as irrevocable as marriage and should be given as much thought.' The 1902 pilot cutter Baroque, was acquired and after not inconsiderable expense, proved equal to the challenge. Tilman's first troublesome voyage aboard her to West Greenland in 1973 completes this collection.
