Before Mary Earps, Jess Fishlock, and Lucy Bronze, there were the trailblazers who defied the odds.
In 1921, the FA banned women from playing football, but these rebels refused to quit. Leaving behind jobs, families, and their homeland, they sought opportunities abroad, where they could fulfil their footballing potential.
This book uncovers the untold stories of those pioneering women who paved the way for today’s stars. The original Lioness who started a new life in the Netherlands as a teenager, the first woman of colour to play for England, the girl who gave up the chance of international recognition to play in Italy – through their reflections, we explore their extraordinary journeys, the evolution of women’s football, and the dreams they still hold for the future.

This is a snapshot of your personal and unique way of processing information. I’ve written it over a period of many years–tweaking it as I researched and learned more about our layers of learning.
I’ve taught violin, raised children, and given workshops (some for music students and some for authors of children’s books where we discussed the child’s development at various ages so that when they wrote a book, they knew the thinking of their characters).
Kids think differently in just a matter of a few months. What scared them at six years old at seven is just a matter of fact. What made them laugh at four is no longer funny at five.

The Loyalists in the American Revolution is the detailed story of the formation of the Tory or Loyalist party in the American Revolution ; its persecution by the Whigs during a long and fratricidal war, and the banishment or death of over one hundred thousand of these most conservative and respectable Americans is a tragedy but rarely paralleled in the history of the world.
This book includes matters necessary for an understanding of the Revolution, but hitherto, for the most part, neglected, and in many cases inaccessible.

The Most Mysterious Anunnaki governor of all was Ur-Nammu of Ur, who subsequently became an independent Anunnaki king (2113-2096 BC) and founded a spin-off Anunnaki dynasty known as the Third Dynasty of Ur (or Ur 3 period), which endured for more than a century (2113-2006 BC). This Anunnaki Empire was more compact than the Sargon of Agade and showed an advanced Anunnaki Sumerian civilization in its most fully developed form. It was a highly organized bureaucratic society, reflected because cuneiform tablets from this period, mainly referring to gods and descendants of Nibiru in content, are represented in world museums to the number of well over a hundred thousand; most of these are waiting to be published.
Anunnaki's references became obsessive. Every thing had to be annotated to the Anunnaki realm, such as, on one tablet, an exact count of Anunnaki Deities (2,740 in total) although only 96 were worshiped as gods. There were even documents recording a mass exodus of Anunnaki back to Nibiru for a festival. Despite, or perhaps even because of, this sophisticated Anunnaki worship, it was a time of considerable material prosperity, as archaeology witnesses, as widespread evidence of Anunnaki Temple activities. Ur-Nammu himself, the founder of the principal Anunnaki dynasty, built or rebuilt temples in many ancient cities, such as Erech, Lagash, Nippur, and Eridu, but above all, at his Anunnaki capital, Ur.

Every week, one in eight Americans place a bet on the dream of a life-changing lottery jackpot. Americans spend more on lottery tickets annually than on video streaming services, concert tickets, books, and movie tickets combined.

The story of lotteries in the United States may seem straightforward: tickets are bought predominately by poor people driven by the wishful belief that they will overcome infinitesimal odds and secure lives of luxury. The reality is more complicated. For a Dollar and a Dream shows how, in an era of stagnant upward mobility, millions of Americans turned to the lottery as their only chance at achieving the American Dream. Gamblers were not the only ones who bet on betting. As voters revolted against higher taxes in the late twentieth century, states saw legalized gambling
as a panacea, a way of generating revenue without cutting public services or raising taxes. Alongside stories of lottery winners and losers, Jonathan Cohen shows how gamblers have used prayer to help them win a jackpot, how states tried to pay for schools with scratch-off tickets, and how lottery advertising has targeted lower income and nonwhite communities.

For a Dollar and a Dream charts the untold history of the nation's lottery system, revealing how players and policymakers alike got hooked on hopes for a gambling windfall.

At the dawn of the twentieth century, José Cuervo inherited his family's humble distillery, La Rojeña, in the Tequila Valley. Within a decade, it would become Mexico's leading producer of tequila. But when the Mexican Revolution erupted, a charge of treason and a death threat against him by Pancho Villa forced Cuervo to flee. His disappearance turned him into an obscure, shadowy historical figure.

In Tequila Wars, award-winning author Ted Genoways restores Cuervo to his place as a key player in Mexico's formative period. Before the revolution, Cuervo's acclaim spread worldwide, and once war broke out, Cuervo remained an impresario, kingmaker, and cultural force. In the face of his own government's corruption and the nationalism of his northern neighbors, Cuervo reached American drinkers by establishing Mexico’s covert form of cross-border commerce with the United States. As the largest and most important distilleries in the Tequila Valley recognized the threat posed by Mexico's unraveling, Cuervo also lobbied for suspending normal competition in favor of "a union of tequila makers"—what would become the first Mexican cartel.

The first biography of Cuervo, Tequila Wars uncovers the history of the man who would forever change not only the business of tequila, but international relations between Mexico and the United States.
