When Lily and Alex entered a packed gymnasium in Queens, New York, in 1972, they barely recognized their son. The boy who escaped to America with them, who was bullied as he struggled to learn English and cope with family tragedy, was now a young man who had discovered and secretly honed his basketball talent on the outdoor courts of New York City. That young man was Ernie Grunfeld, who would go on to win an Olympic gold medal and reach previously unimaginable heights as an NBA player and executive. In By the Grace of the Game, Dan Grunfeld, once a basketball standout himself at Stanford University, shares the remarkable story of his family, a delicately interwoven narrative that doesn't lack in heartbreak yet remains as deeply nourishing as his grandmother's Hungarian cooking, so lovingly described. The true improbability of the saga lies in the discovery of a game that unknowingly held the power to heal wounds, build bridges, and tie together a fractured Jewish family. If the magnitude of an American dream is measured by the intensity of the nightmare that came before and the heights of the triumph achieved after, then By the Grace of the Game recounts an American dream story of unprecedented scale. From the grips of the Nazis to the top of the Olympic podium, from the cheap seats to center stage at Madison Square Garden, from yellow stars to silver spoons, this complex tale traverses the spectrum of the human experience to detail how perseverance, love, and legacy can survive through generations.

In the turbulent twilight of the Samurai era, when Japan was gripped by the Boshin War, one woman rose to embody the spirit of bushido with unparalleled courage and indomitable will. "Nakano Takeko" is an exciting historical biography that delves into the life and legacy of Nakano Takeko, the extraordinary female warrior whose name became synonymous with bravery and honor.
Born into a samurai family in the mid-19th century, Nakano Takeko was trained in the art of war from a young age, mastering the deadly naginata with a skill that rivaled her male counterparts. As Japan teetered on the edge of a new era, Takeko found herself drawn into the heart of the conflict. Rejecting the traditional roles prescribed to women of her time, she carved her own path on the battlefield, leading a group of women warriors, the Jƍshitai, in a courageous stand against the imperial forces during the Battle of Aizu.
"Nakano Takeko" is more than just a biography; it is a testament to the resilience and spirit of a true warrior. It celebrates the life of a woman who defied societal norms, leaving an indelible mark on history. Her story is one of inspiration, courage, and the relentless pursuit of honor, making this book a must-read for history enthusiasts, admirers of strong female figures, and anyone captivated by the samurai legacy.
Prepare to be immersed in a tale of valor and determination that will leave you in awe of Nakano Takeko's enduring legacy.

The riveting account of the first bloody showdown between Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee—a battle that sealed the fate of the Confederacy and changed the course of American history.

At the outset of the Battle of the Wilderness, General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia remained capable of defeating the Army of the Potomac. But two days of relentless fighting in dense Virginia woods, Robert E. Lee was never again able to launch offensive operations against Grant's army. Lee, who faced tremendous difficulties replacing fallen soldiers, lost 11,125 men—or 17% of his entire force. On the opposing side, the Union suffered 17,666 casualties.

The alarming casualties do not begin to convey the horror of this battle, one of the most gruesome in American history. The impenetrable forest and gunfire smoke made it impossible to view the enemy. Officers couldn't even see their own men during the fighting. The incessant gunfire caused the woods to catch fire, resulting in hundreds of men burning to death. "It was as though Christian men had turned to fiends, and hell itself had usurped the place of the earth," wrote one officer. When the fighting finally subsided during the late evening of the second day, the usually stoical Grant threw himself down on his cot and cried.

When the Nazis invaded, they did not intend to govern fairly. Instead they stripped defeated nations of their treasures, industry and natural resources, with the aim of asserting German supremacy and imposing Hitler's New Order in Europe.

Paul Roland tells the story of daily life under Nazi rule - in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Guernsey and the Channel Islands- to be brought to heel by bribery and brutality, rape and torture, inducement and intimidation as the Germans carried out their vile policies.

We hear of quislings and collaborators who conspired with their captors, the 'enemies of the Reich' including Jewish citizens who were rounded up and exterminated, as well as stories of incredible courage by individuals who struck back against the FĂŒhrer.

As the government continues to trap black males into abnormal and senseless lives, black men are revolting against authority and common sense. They must be numb or dumb to the positive legacy their black leaders presented to them. Black-on-black crime is outrageous, and black men need to understand as long as they live, white Americans and this government are at war with them, and they have to readjust their thinking and fight together to defeat this racist system. America's plan is to disrupt black families so white men can take our black women and make white babies, while we are dead or in prison. America's plan does not have to be black America's plan, therefore we must love one another and save black families and black communities from a racist and Republican party takeover.

A criatividade e a liberdade movem nossa histĂłria do skate. É o que buscamos expressar neste livro.
