Thomas Mann
Paul Thomas Mann, geboren 1875 in Lübeck, ist einer der herausragendsten Erzähler des 20. Jahrhunderts. Mann wuchs in großbürgerlichen Verhältnissen auf, sein Vater Thomas Johann Heinrich Mann war Kaufmann, Reeder, Konsul und Senator, seine Mutter Julia da Silva-Bruns war die Tochter eines nach Brasilien ausgewanderten Kaufmanns. Bekannt wurde er vor allem durch die Romane ›Buddenbrooks‹ (1901) und ›Der Zauberberg‹ (1924). 1929 wurde er mit dem Nobelpreis für Literatur ausgezeichnet. Mann emigrierte 1933 und lebte in der Schweiz und den USA. Er starb 1955 in Zürich.
