This book describes an aristocratic woman named Anna to pursue love and her tragedy. The book also depicts the reforms and explorations made by the manor owner Levin in the face of the crisis in the countryside, and depicts a broad and colorful picture of Russia from Moscow to other provinces and villages during the transition period. The story takes place in St. Petersburg in the 19th century. On a trip, Anna met a young army officer, Lensky, and fell into love. However, her husband Karenin discovered the affair. Anna’s request for divorce was rejected and she was threatened that she would never see her beloved son again. Anna eloped with Lensky and lived a short happy life, but the apathy and boredom after the passion made her unfortunate fate suffer the final blow. Anna strongly missed her son. She is unable to resist the hypocritical and cruel moral pressure of upper-class society, and cannot completely break away from aristocratic society. Finally, she lied on the rail and committed suicide in contradiction and despair. Levin and Giti form a loving couple based on love, but life after marriage is not satisfying. Levin felt sad by the decline of the landlord economy and tried hard to resist the development of capitalism. He hoped to ease class conflicts through the cooperation between landlords and peasants. He was pessimistic and disappointed after his dream was shattered and finally found a spiritual home after he converted to religion. )
