الكتاب يدور حول المعاني الشعرية ، وأسماه مغاني المعاني ، أي مجالي المعاني وطرائفها وبدائعها ، وقسم الكتاب إلي فصول عشرة يعرض فيها ما جاء من المعاني الشعرية في موضوعات الغزل وما يتفرع منه وما يلحلق به من وصف للطبيعة والليل ، وما إلي ذلك والفصل الثاني في الخمريات وما يتبعها من وصف آنيتها ومجالسها وسقاتها وندمانها .
نوتات الوحشة شعر – طلال الطويرقي في هذه القصائد المقفاة والموزونة ، يضُمِنُ الشاعر مشاعره الانسانية المرهفة، حيث صور في احدى القصائد مشاعره تجاه ابيه ورحيله عن هذا العالم حيث يقول: يتيمةٌ كلُ أيامي أبعثرها لعل فيها جنون الطفل يختمر تخبئ الموت و الاحداق مفصحة وانت مرتعش ضاقت بك السرر تموت وحدك و الاحداق دامعة بياضك المبتدأ المحذوف والخبر. كما صور في قصيدة اخرى مشاعر امه و هو يودعها في سفر وهي تبادله شعور الوداع الحزين: قبل الوداع أذوب في نظراتها و تشر في رئتي الوداع حزينا أتذكر الآن الحديث إذ رأت مني الحقائب واستوت تبكيناVoir livre
