“Dishes are satisfying and occasionally border on indulgent. . . . for those seeking better health, there is much here to consider and entice.” —Publishers Weekly

This innovative book introduces a whole new way of eating with a unique plan developed specifically at Grayshott Spa, one of the world’s leading health spas.

By focusing on digestive health as a route to true wellness, the Grayshott Plan helps to boost your energy and rebalance weight safely through a nutrient rich diet that will give you everything you need to face the demands of modern life.

The Plan dispels the misguided notion of “detoxifying” through spartan, punitive regimes and instead focuses on regaining good health by eating the right foods to aid the body’s natural detoxification.

The Plan can confidently recommend quality grass-fed red meats, fish, eggs, fermented foods, butter, avocado, and organic vegetables. This is not a plan of privation but a sensible and satisfying approach to food that brings you back to feeling great.

The first section will introduce you to the Plan and provide information and meal plans for a short-term course to rest and repair your digestive tract. The Post-Plan information will show you more foods to introduce to your diet and keep your gut healthy.

The recipe section contains 100 delicious meals split into breakfasts, soups, main meals, vegetable sides, salads and special occasions and includes delicious, satisfying and nourishing meals like:Baked eggs with tomatoes, peppers and chorizoPorchetta with plum and fig chutneyGrilled sole fillets marinated in ginger and tangerineCrayfish cakes with coconut and mango and many more

Two hundred recipes for anyone who needs to avoid wheat or gluten, from appetizers to main dishes to desserts. If you suffer from gluten allergy or intolerance (Coeliac disease), or wheat intolerance, then you probably know the only treatment for either of these debilitating conditions is a gluten-free and wheat-free diet—this means eliminating bread, biscuits, crackers, cakes, pastry, pasta, breadcrumbs, semolina, and food cooked in batter, as well as many tinned, packaged and processed foods—foods which usually form the greater part of a normal day-to-day diet. Fortunately, there are a lot of delicious alternatives—and this cookbook offers a wide range of recipes including Sweet Potato Soup with Coriander and Ginger; Polenta with Gorgonzola; Terrine of Chicken and Walnuts; Salmon Mousse with Green Peppercorns; and much more. With helpful health information included as well, this is an ideal resource for people with these conditions.

It’s time to relax on the porch swing and feast your eyes on some of the tastiest cakes you’ll ever sink your fork into. There are recipes here for everything from Brown Sugar Pound Cake and fluffy white coconut cakes layered with lemon curd or raspberry jam to the chocolatey goodness of Mississippi Mud Cake and the extravagant elegance of Lady Baltimore Cake. With cakes this delectable, it’s no wonder Southerners are so proud of their baking history. Jam cakes and jelly rolls; humble pear bread and peanut cake; cakes with one, two, three, and four layers; and even Eudora Welty’s bourbon-soaked white fruitcake—each moist and delicious forkful represents the welcome-to-the-South attitude of the sultry Southern states.

The Baking 101 section explains the basics, including buying the proper equipment, mixing the perfect batter, putting on the finishing touches (that means frosting, and lots of it!), and the how-to’s of storing your lovely cake so that the last slice tastes as delightful and moist as the first.

As you page through Southern Cakes, you’ll surely come across some old favorites as well as many new delectable treats, plus a generous helping of Southern hospitality in each and every slice.

“Food writer Nancie McDermott has compiled 65 of the most sinfully delicious cakes . . . and the result could make even Scarlet O’Hara weak in the knees.” —Chocolatier Magazine

“For my money, the grandest-looking cakes in this book are the brown sugar pound cakes baked in a tube pan with a lush mass of caramel glaze drooling down its sides, and the classic coconut cake, with its feathery, dazzling white frosting. When I brought the coconut cake to the office, people in the street were literally lunging at it.” —Los Angeles Times

    HowExpert Guide to Vegan Food...

HowExpert Guide to Vegan Food for Non-Vegans takes a unique approach to vegan cooking. Instead of focusing on veganism as a diet or lifestyle, this book approaches it as a cuisine. The belief is that by viewing it through that lens, resistance to trying the cuisine can be reduced. This book consists of recipes, tips, and important reminders for those interested in going vegan entirely. Still, most importantly, it is for those who either want to eat some vegan food or those who are trying to increase the number of healthy options they make for their friends and family.
While there are a few tips that may only resonate with readers trying to transition fully to a vegan diet, these tips are still presented in a way that allows them to provide nutritional information that would benefit all readers. The writing style in this book has hints of sarcasm, bits of corny humor, and above all, is intended to come off as inclusive. The author, who was vegan for some time, is no longer vegan and can present the case for increasing the amount of vegan food you eat without some of the forced tones that some may associate with the cuisine. There was also some time devoted to dispelling (or confirming) some of the myths related to vegan food.
