Summary

Tallest Geysers explores the fascinating world of these natural wonders, offering insights into their formation and eruption dynamics. It delves into the geological and hydrological conditions necessary for geyser development, revealing how these features are dynamic expressions of Earth's internal heat. Did you know that the height and frequency of geyser eruptions are directly linked to a delicate balance of heat flux, water supply, and subsurface geological structures? By examining these hydrothermal systems, we gain a deeper understanding of geological processes and geothermal energy potential. The book uniquely analyzes the interplay between subsurface structures and eruption dynamics, introducing the concept of "geyser architecture." It progresses through four sections: foundational concepts, specific examples like Steamboat Geyser in Yellowstone National Park, the physics of eruptions, and broader implications for geothermal resources and even astrobiology. Through geological surveys, hydrological data, and thermal imaging, the book provides a robust, evidence-based account suitable for both scientists and scientifically curious readers.

he Sickness Unto Death, and Other Fun Danish Party Games: Kierkegaard Without the Prozac is your gloriously sarcastic, brutally insightful, and occasionally soul-crushing guide to philosophy’s original sadboy, Søren Kierkegaard.
Tired of reading philosophy that feels like intellectual sandpaper? This book unpacks Kierkegaard’s anxiety-fueled, despair-drenched theology with the humor and honesty it desperately needs. From aesthetic dead-ends to existential panic, from absurd leaps of faith to spiritual ghosting, this irreverent (but accurate!) guide doesn’t just explain Kierkegaard—it translates him for the modern reader who’s spiritually curious and emotionally exhausted.
Perfect for readers who love philosophy but hate philosophers, theology with a side of dark humor, and the occasional mental breakdown in pursuit of authenticity.
    What you’ll get inside:
Pseudonyms, despair, and that one time Abraham almost committed murder in the name of faith
The aesthetic life: fun until it isn’t
Why being a good person might still mean you’re completely lost
Faith, absurdity, and how to jump into the void without looking down
Kierkegaard’s existential glow-up in modern philosophy (yes, Sartre, we see you)
A roadmap for reading his actual books without losing your will to live
And a final call to wake up and stop living someone else’s life
No prior philosophy degree required—just a sense of humor, a tolerance for paradox, and maybe a journal for emotional damage control.

Written and read by food writer and New York Times contributor Besha Rodell—(formerly) one of the world’s last anonymous restaurant critics—comes this this witty and lively memoir. When Besha Rodell moved from Australia to the United States with her mother at fourteen, she was a foreigner in a new land, missing her friends, her father, and the food she grew up eating. In the years that followed, Rodell began waitressing and discovered the buzz of the restaurant world, immersing herself in the lifestyle and community while struggling with the industry’s shortcomings. As she built a family, Rodell realized her dream, though only a handful of women before her had done it: to make a career as a restaurant critic. From the streets of Brooklyn to lush Atlanta to sunny Los Angeles to traveling and eating around the world, and, finally, home to Australia, Rodell takes us on a delicious, raw, and fascinating journey through her life and career and explores the history of criticism and dining and the cultural shifts that have turned us all into food obsessives. Hunger Like a Thirst shares stories of the joys and hardships of Rodell’s coming-of-age, the amazing (and sometimes terrible) meals she ate along the way, and the dear friends she made in each restaurant, workplace, and home.A Macmillan Audio production from Celadon Books.
