Beschreibung

'Indoor Air Hazards' presents a critical examination of a startling reality: indoor air often contains higher pollutant concentrations than outdoor urban environments, affecting the millions who spend 90% of their time inside buildings. This comprehensive guide bridges environmental science, public health, and building engineering to explore the invisible threats in our homes and workplaces, while offering practical solutions for creating healthier indoor environments.

The book systematically progresses from establishing historical context of indoor air pollution to examining specific contaminants, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particulate matter, and biological pollutants. Through accessible graphs and data interpretations, it demonstrates how modern building practices, while energy-efficient, can inadvertently trap pollutants inside. The text draws from World Health Organization standards and current scientific research to illustrate the significant impact of indoor air quality on human health, productivity, and overall well-being.

What sets this guide apart is its balanced approach to technical information and practical applications, making it valuable for both professionals and general readers. The book provides specific, actionable strategies for identifying pollutant sources, implementing effective ventilation solutions, and selecting low-emission materials. While maintaining scientific accuracy, it addresses ongoing debates in the field, such as the balance between energy efficiency and ventilation, concluding with emerging concerns about climate change's impact on indoor air quality and new building technologies.

Experience has convinced me that an assumption, though false, if persisted in, will harden into fact, that continuous imagination is sufficient for all things, and all my reasonable plans and actions will never make up for my lack of continuous imagination.

The world presents different appearances according as our states of consciousness differ. What we see when we are identified with a state cannot be seen when we are no longer fused with it. By state is meant all that man believes and consents to as true. No idea presented to the mind can realize itself unless the mind accepts it. It depends on the acceptance, the state with which we are identified, how things present themselves. In the fusion of imagination and states is to be found the shaping of the world as it seems.

The world is a revelation of the states with which imagination is fused. It is the state from which we think that determines the objective world in which we live. The rich man, the poor man, the good man, the thief are what they are by virtue of the states from which they view the world. On the distinction between these states depends the distinction between the worlds of these men. Individually so different is this same world. It is not the actions and behaviour of the good man that should be matched but his point of view.

If you would assume the feeling of your wish fulfilled more frequently, you would be master of your fate, but unfortunately you shut out your assumption for all but the occasional hour. Practice making real to yourself the feeling of the wish fulfilled. After you have assumed the feeling of the wish fulfilled, do not close the experience as you would a book, but carry it around like a fragrant odor. Instead of being completely forgotten, let it remain in the atmosphere communicating its influence automatically to your actions and reactions.

Between alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription drugs, pornography, gambling, and eating disorders, fully 25% of the population of the United States is addicted to something. Those addictions are taking a massive physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial toll on individuals, families, and communities. The problem can feel insurmountable. But there is a solution, at once ancient and supported by the latest in neuroscientific research.

With an honest assessment of the facts, yet always reaching out toward hopeful solutions, counselors Chip Dodd and Stephen James explain what addiction really is, how it works, and why it is so damaging to our hearts, souls, minds, and relationships. They then take us beyond mere coping techniques that allow us to function to the real solution—restoring our broken relationship with our Creator so that we can rediscover how to live fully the way we were created to live. Each chapter includes the personal story of a recovering addict, told from the addict's point of view.
