Synopsis

"Night Time Brainwork" unveils the fascinating world of brain restoration during sleep, challenging the common perception that rest is simply a passive state. The book delves into groundbreaking research showing how our brains engage in critical maintenance and repair work while we sleep, with particular emphasis on the recently discovered glymphatic system—the brain's sophisticated waste removal mechanism that primarily operates during rest periods.

Through a carefully structured progression, the book explores three interconnected themes: the neurobiological processes of brain restoration, sleep cycles' role in neural maintenance, and how quality rest impacts cognitive performance. Readers learn about remarkable discoveries, such as how the brain's cleaning system becomes dramatically more active during sleep, and how different sleep stages contribute to memory consolidation and emotional regulation. The integration of circadian rhythms and their influence on these restorative processes provides crucial context for understanding optimal rest patterns.

What sets this work apart is its ability to bridge cutting-edge neuroscience with practical applications, making complex concepts accessible to both healthcare professionals and informed general readers. The book synthesizes decades of research while incorporating recent technological advances in brain imaging, offering evidence-based strategies for optimizing sleep patterns and cognitive function. By connecting neuroscience with psychology and chronobiology, it presents a comprehensive understanding of how proper rest fundamentally supports brain health and cognitive performance.

Colombia’s history is marked by a rich tapestry of indigenous cultures and societies, which laid the foundations for the diverse nation that exists today. Long before the Spanish arrived in 1492, the region was home to advanced civilizations such as the Muisca Confederation, the Quimbaya Civilization, and the Tairona Chiefdoms. These indigenous groups thrived in Colombia's varied geography, establishing complex societies with sophisticated agricultural practices, intricate trade networks, and elaborate spiritual beliefs.
The Spanish conquest of the Americas brought significant change to the region. Following Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Caribbean, Spanish explorers began their colonization efforts. In 1538, the Spanish established Bogotá, which became the capital of the Viceroyalty of New Granada. This vast colonial territory included what is now Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela. The Spanish imposed their rule over the indigenous peoples, exploiting both the land and the labor of native communities, which would profoundly shape the future of the region.

For the first time, a collection of testimonials gives voice to the children of lesbian couples. Sixteen of them answer the questions many people ask: does living without a father pose a problem? Do children of gay couples necessarily become gay or lesbian? Do their families share the same values as others?
The interviewees were aged between eleven and thirty-one. They were conceived either by insemination or during previous relationships. Today, they are students, police officers or producers. They have agreed to confide in us their joys, their worries, their troubles, their hopes and the way “others” look at them.

"What Rama says once he carries out; there is no looking back.” Rama to Kaikeyi “Only the timid and the weak leave things to destiny but the strong never bank on destiny or luck.” Lakshmana to RamaThe epic poem, by Maharishi Valmiki Muni, narrates the life of Lord Rama, a legendary prince of Ayodhya city in the kingdom of Kosala. The epic follows his fourteen-year exile to the forest urged by his father King Dasharatha, on the request of Rama's stepmother Kaikeyi. He traveled across forests in the Indian subcontinent with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana. Rama endured the kidnapping of Sita by Ravana – the demon king of Lanka, which resulted in a great war; and Rama's eventual return to Ayodhya to be crowned king amidst jubilation and celebration. The Ramayana is one of the ancient epics in world literature consisting of nearly 24,000 verses. It is considered to be the Adi-kavya (first poem) depicting the duties of relationships, portraying ideal characters like the ideal father, ideal servant, ideal brother, ideal husband and ideal king. The Ramayana was an important influence on later Sanskrit poetry and Vedic life and culture. There are many versions of Ramayana in Indian languages, besides Buddhist, Sikh, and Jain adaptations. There are also Cambodian (Reamker), Indonesian, Filipino, Thai (Ramakien), Lao, Burmese and Malay versions of the iconic tale.
