  I experienced my transition as a form of resistance, but in reality it only affirmed the same stereotypes that had done me harm to begin with. Trying to prevent myself from committing suicide by becoming less recognizably female was an attempt at resistance that, politically, functioned in many ways as a form of capitulation.
  Many feminists are concerned about the way transgender ideology naturalizes patriarchal views of sex stereotypes, and encourages transition as a way of attempting to escape misogyny.

  The author makes a case for a world in which all medical interventions for the purpose of assimilation are open to criticism. This book is a far-reaching discussion of women' s struggles to survive under patriarchy, which draws upon a legacy of radical and lesbian feminist ideas to arrive at conclusions. Robinson' s bold discussion of both transition and detransition is meant to provoke a much-needed conversation about who benefits from transgender medicine and who has to bear the hidden cost of these interventions.
  Transition is not an unconstrained choice when we are fast-tracked to medical intervention as if being female was a tumor that required immediate removal to save our lives.

  The lives of Wilbur and Orville Wright are quintessential American stories. Two years later, Earhart was the first woman to cross the Atlantic in a plane, and her uncanny resemblance to Lindbergh earned her the nickname "Lady Lindy". Together they became America's most famous aviators, and their stories were inextricably interwoven by their lives, careers, and ill-fated destinies. 
  By the mid-1930s, Amelia Earhart had set a multitude of altitude and distance records, but she wanted to attempt a circumnavigation of the world. After an ill-fated first attempt, Earhart and Fred Noonan set off on another attempt, creating one of the 20th century’s most enduring mysteries. Earhart and Noonan were to land on Howland Island, 1700 miles southwest of Hawaii, but radio transmissions ceased between the plane and authorities on the ground the morning of July 2, 1937. Earhart and Noonan had disappeared, never to be seen again, despite one of the nation’s largest and costliest manhunts to date. Unfortunately, the speculation over exactly what happened to Earhart and the mystery of her disappearance have come to overshadow and obscure her many accomplishments.

Epictetus says you should focus on the things that are on your side, like judgment, impulse, desire, and aversion, and ignore or rise above the things that are not on your side, like body, property, reputation, office, and death itself. Everything outside your will is “indifferent”—not because it lacks value, but because it's not in your control. If it's not down to you, why worry about it? He says we should treat any disturbance we can't control as a mistake in our own reasoning, then to correct that mistake on the spot. 
  The Enchiridion proposes that when someone insults you, you should remember that they judge appearances, not truth. When a loved one travels or dies, remind yourself that departure is part of nature. When desire pulls you toward a goal, pause and examine the cost of being disappointed. When you lose something, say simply that it's been 'returned', not lost. 
  This Stoic handbook has influenced major figures for millennia. After influencing Marcus Aurelius' Meditations, it was referenced by Michel de Montaigne and Blaise Pascal, carried on his military campaigns by Frederick the Great, and went on to profoundly influence the works of Matthew Arnold and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Even now influences the approach of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
