Sinossi

In "The River War," Winston Churchill offers a compelling account of the Second Sudanese War, blending personal narrative with historical analysis to illustrate the complexities of colonial conflict. Published in 1899, Churchill's literary style is characterized by vivid descriptions, sharp wit, and incisive commentary, revealing not only the realities of warfare but also the intricate social and political contexts of the time. Through detailed observation and engaging prose, he captures both the valor and the tragedy of the British campaign in Sudan, shedding light on the ethical dilemmas faced by imperial powers. Winston Churchill, a seasoned soldier and journalist prior to becoming a prominent political figure, was deeply influenced by his experiences in the military and his interactions with diverse cultures during his early career. Having served in the campaign as a cavalry officer, he provides a first-hand perspective that is both insightful and reflective, blending his personal journey with the broader implications of imperialism and its consequential impacts. For readers interested in military history, colonial studies, or Churchill's multifaceted legacy, "The River War" serves as a crucial resource. It invites readers to ponder the volatile interplay between power and morality and remains an essential work for anyone wishing to grasp the complexities of British imperialism in the late 19th century.

Vanessa Kisuule is a big Michael Jackson fan. This fixation once gave her great joy, but now it keeps her up at night. In her bracingly honest, energetic and lively book she explores the fall-out from that fandom and how, or if, we can hold people to account whilst loving them at the same time.

Why do famous musicians mean so much to us? How does the pop culture machine both mirror and magnify the worst aspects of human nature? Why is it so hard to accept that the people we love, famous or not, are capable of doing terrible things?

As debates rage on about abusive public figures, Kisuule asks not just if we should separate the art from the artist, but how this moral conundrum informs the way we shape our relationships, families and notions of social justice. Witty, poetic and with references to R. Kelly, Britney Spears and a host of other famous faces, Neverland is both an ardent love letter to the music we love and an unflinching look at the costs of hero worship.

The original "Yoga Secrets of Patanjali" are in themselves exceedingly brief, less than 10 pages in the original ancient texts. Yet, as they are based upon the great, timeless Bhagavad Gita, they contain the essence of all practical wisdom, set forth in admirable order and great detail. This timeless theme brings forth a palpable spiritual regeneration, the rebirth of the spiritual from the psychical: the same sacred theme that the realized yogis of India so wisely and eloquently set forth over 5,000 years ago.

Vyasa is the legendary Indian sage who is credited with compiling the Mahabharata, a collection of legendary and didactic poetry worked around a central heroic narrative. In India his birthday is celebrated as Guru Purnima, on Shukla Purnima day in the month of Ashadha (June–July).
Vyasa was the son of the ascetic Parashara and the dasyu (aboriginal) princess Satyavati and grew up in forests, living with hermits who taught him the Vedas. Thereafter he lived in the forests near the banks of the river Sarasvati, becoming a teacher and a priest, fathering a son and disciple, Shuka, and gathering a large group of disciples. Late in life, living in caves in the Himalayas, he is said to have divided the Vedas into the four traditional collections, composed Puranas, and, in a period of two and a half years, composed his great poetic work, the Mahabharata, supposedly dictating it to his scribe, Ganesha, the elephant god.

Perfect for all students of the eight-fold yoga path, curious commuters, and all library and school collections. A once-in-a-lifetime audio experience event. Perfect for universities and digital educational media.
