Synopsis

In a land where power is worshipped, elections are sacraments, and corruption is gospel, one book dares to reveal the unspoken commandments of the political elite.

"The Unholy Bible of Corrupt Politician" is a sharp, darkly comedic satire disguised as a holy text—an unfiltered exposé of the wicked tactics, twisted logic, and sacrilegious schemes of the modern-day political pharaohs. Structured like sacred scripture but soaked in irony, this 30-chapter mock Bible reveals how corrupt politicians keep the poor perpetually poor, exchange aid for allegiance, and masterfully use taxpayer money to glorify themselves—like cooking the poor in their own oil.

Inside, readers will uncover:

The gospel of vote-buying and charity-for-camera schemes

The parables of 90% corruption and 10% infrastructure

The revelation of companies, cronies, and cartels dressed as public servants

The divine comedy of press conferences, photo ops, and pork barrels

And the beast of accountability that no one dares to face—until now.

Written with biting wit and fearless commentary, this book is for the angry, the awakened, and the amused. It is for those tired of seeing public service turned into a private business, and for those who want to laugh at the absurdity before they cry from the injustice.

Whether you’re a student of satire, a lover of truth, or just a tired citizen who’s seen one too many smiling ribbon cuttings on unfinished roads—this book is your hymn of rebellion.

Read it. Share it. And never vote blindly again.

WARNING: This book contains heavy doses of truth masked as comedy. Reader discretion (and political maturity) is advised.

The late twentieth century saw charities grow from timid service deliverers into major providers with campaigning teeth. What caused this? How did they gain confidence and strength? In this fascinating history, examined through the eyes of RNIB from 1970 to 2010, Ian Bruce examines the internal drivers and the external socio-political environment that allowed and encouraged this explosion. Bruce’s experience of leading a charity at the forefront of this change, and his participation in the wider charity sector for fifty years as both activist and academic, gives him an unsurpassed understanding of what happened and why. His first-hand knowledge will speak to charity workers as well as academics, covering themes such as the rise of beneficiary power against patronising providers; the change from welfare to rights; the shift from the medical to the social model of disability; and the adoption of social welfare and business professionalisms such as Strategic Planning and Charity Marketing. Today’s charities have much to learn from the successes and mistakes of this dynamic period.

The Trafficker Next Door - How...

"Kaya mo ba?" Can you take it? An instructor asks a group of migrant workers in the Philippines, as they prepare for domestic work in wealthier countries. Can you take the grueling work? "Kaya," the women say. "We can."

The phrase "human trafficking" often conjures nightmarish images of sexual exploitation, but Rhacel Salazar Parreñas reveals that the vast majority of trafficking victims are domestic workers who suffer abuse not at the hands of crime lords but rather "ordinary" family employers.

Drawing on twenty years of groundbreaking research across three continents, Parreñas exposes the grim realities faced by migrant workers ensnared in forced labor due to poverty and debt bondage. She uncovers how entrenched social and legal norms, coupled with a patronizing "employer savior complex," foster a troubling sense of ownership among employers over "their" domestic workers.

Through powerful firsthand accounts, Parreñas illustrates the migrants' desperation, and the power dynamics that lead to a global network of exploitation. Parreñas's narrative challenges listeners to confront uncomfortable truths about everyday household arrangements and calls for justice and fair treatment for all workers.

Cover Art Photo: Ronald Reagan giving his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention at Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan. July 17, 1980.
In his acceptance speech, Reagan envisioned “a new consensus with all those across the land who share a community of values embodied in these words: family, work, neighborhood, peace and freedom.” Reagan’s acceptance focuses on “three grave threats to our very existence, any one of which could destroy us. We face a disintegrating economy, a weakened defense and an energy policy based on the sharing of scarcity.”
Reagan places responsibility on the “Democratic party leadership-in the White House and in Congress-for this unprecedented calamity which has befallen us.” He says his first act will be “to impose an immediate and thorough freeze on federal hiring” and “to conduct a detailed review of every department, bureau and agency that lives by federal appropriation.” Reagan calls for “a 30 percent reduction in income tax rates over a period of three years” and reminds us that “every major tax cut in this century has strengthened the economy, generated renewed productivity and ended up yielding new revenues for the government”.
On the issue of national defense, Reagan asserts that we “know only too well that war comes not when the forces of freedom are strong, but when they are weak. It is then that tyrants are tempted.” While calling for a strong military, Reagan reiterates his long-held belief that government is too big and the “time is now to limit federal spending; to insist on a stable monetary reform and to free ourselves from imported oil.”
