In the "Collected Plays of W. Somerset Maugham," the esteemed author compiles a treasure trove of theatrical works that reflect his profound insight into human nature and societal norms. Maugham's approach to drama is characterized by sharp wit, compelling dialogue, and a keen understanding of character psychology. The collection spans various themes, from the complexities of love and relationships to critiques of moral ambiguity, offering audiences not only entertainment but also thoughtful commentary on the human condition. Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century theatrical conventions, Maugham's plays embody both realism and modernism, merging conventional storytelling with innovative narrative techniques. William Somerset Maugham, a prolific British author, was known for his keen observation of social structures and human behavior, attributes deeply rooted in his own life experiences and travels. Born into a respectable family but facing personal turmoils, including the loss of his parents and struggles with his sexuality, Maugham's unique perspective informs the depth and relativity of his characters. His encounters with diverse cultures during his work as a medical officer in World War I and extensive travels influenced his literary voice, making him a master storyteller of human drama. Exploring the intricacies of human relationships and societal expectations, this collection is indispensable for those who appreciate sophisticated drama interwoven with moral dilemmas and ethical questions.

First published in 1602 by William Shakespeare, The Merry Wives of Windsor features the popular figure Sir John Falstaff, who first appeared in Henry IV, Part 1 and Part 2. Some speculate that Merry Wives was written at the behest of Queen Elizabeth I, who wanted to see Falstaff in love; and that Shakespeare was forced to rush its creation as a result, and so it remains one of Shakespeare's lesser-regarded plays.
The play revolves around two intertwined plots: the adventures of the rogue Falstaff who plans to seduce several local wives, and the story of young Anne Page who is being wooed by prominent citizens while she has her sights set on young Fenton. The wives come together to teach Falstaff a lesson, and in the end love triumphs.
The Merry Wives of Windsor is believed to have been first performed in 1597 and was subsequently published in quarto in 1602, in a second quarto in 1619, and then in the 1623 First Folio. Despite holding a lesser place in Shakespeare's canon, it was one of the first Shakespearean plays to be performed in 1660, after the reinstatement of Charles II and theatre once again was permitted to be performed in London.

Faust is a tragic play in two parts by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, usually known in English as Faust, Part One and Faust, Part Two. Although rarely staged in its entirety, it is the play with the largest audience numbers on German-language stages. Faust is considered by many to be Goethe's magnum opus and the greatest work of German literature. The earliest forms of the work, known as the Urfaust, were developed between 1772 and 1775; however, the details of that development are not entirely clear. Urfaust has twenty-two scenes, one in prose, two largely prose and the remaining 1,441 lines in rhymed verse. The manuscript is lost, but a copy was discovered in 1886.The first appearance of the work in print was Faust, a Fragment, published in 1790. Goethe completed a preliminary version of what is now known as Part One in 1806. Its publication in 1808 was followed by the revised 1828–29 edition, the last to be edited by Goethe himself.Goethe finished writing Faust Part Two in 1831; it was published posthumously the following year. In contrast to Faust Part One, the focus here is no longer on the soul of Faust, which has been sold to the devil, but rather on social phenomena such as psychology, history and politics, in addition to mystical and philosophical topics. The second part formed the principal occupation of Goethe's last years.

In stirring verse and essays, Katy Bowser Hutson chronicles her battle with breast cancer and the complications of faith amid such a fight. Accentuated by the art of Jodi Hays, Katy's words lead us through the realization of cancer, the experience of chemotherapy and a mastectomy, relentless rounds of radiation, the uncertainty of ongoing treatment, and what comes after survival. She writes in resistance to sickness, of wrestling toward beauty:
Cancer is an overgrowth, a kudzu:Tangling and strangling legitimate life.

Chemo is a killing, a burning out:

Burning down to ashy carbon, indiscriminately

But cancer, did you know that I am a poet?
Through it all, she shows what it means to struggle in a battered body and to pray to a God who is near to the broken. Join her in this consideration of mortality and witness her persisting trust in God's unseen ways.
