Sinossi

A timeless story of passion, fate, and forbidden love, Romeo and Juliet is William Shakespeare's most celebrated romantic tragedy. Set in the vibrant city of Verona, this unforgettable play captures the intensity of youthful devotion and the devastating consequences of hatred and division.

At the heart of the drama are two young lovers from feuding families—the Montagues and the Capulets—whose bitter rivalry casts a shadow over the entire city. When Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet meet at a masked celebration, it is love at first sight. Unaware at first of each other's identities, they are drawn together by an instant and profound connection that defies the hostility between their households.

Determined to be together despite the dangers, they secretly marry, hoping their union might reconcile their families. But fate intervenes. A chain of misunderstandings, impulsive decisions, and tragic accidents escalates the conflict, leading to irreversible consequences. As tensions rise and violence erupts, their dream of a shared future slips further from reach.

Through lyrical poetry and powerful imagery, Shakespeare explores themes of love and hate, destiny and choice, youth and impulsiveness, and the conflict between individual desire and social obligation. The play portrays love as both transcendent and perilous—a force capable of inspiring extraordinary courage yet vulnerable to the destructive forces of pride and prejudice.

From the famous balcony scene to the heartbreaking final act, Romeo and Juliet remains one of the most performed and studied works in world literature. Its language is rich with beauty and emotion, and its characters—passionate, flawed, and deeply human—continue to resonate across generations.

Poignant and unforgettable, Romeo and Juliet is more than a love story; it is a profound meditation on the cost of division and the fragile brilliance of young love. Shakespeare's masterpiece endures as a powerful reminder that even in a world torn by conflict, love can shine with extraordinary intensity—though sometimes at the highest price.

LibriVox volunteers bring you 8 recordings of Mother Nature by Emily Dickinson. This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for June 3, 2013While Emily Dickinson was a prolific private poet, fewer than a dozen of her nearly eighteen hundred poems were published during her lifetime. The work that was published during her lifetime was usually altered significantly by the publishers to fit the conventional poetic rules of the time. Dickinson's poems are unique for the era in which she wrote; they contain short lines, typically lack titles, and often use slant rhyme as well as unconventional capitalization and punctuation. Many of her poems deal with themes of death and immortality, two recurring topics in letters to her friends.Mother Nature is a wonderful poem by Dickinson about nature. Mai Der Vang's poetry—lyrically insistent and visually compelling—constitutes a groundbreaking investigation into the collective trauma and resilience experienced by Hmong people and communities, the ongoing cultural and environmental repercussions of the war in Vietnam, the lives of refugees afterward, and the postmemory carried by their descendants. Primordial is a crucial turn to the ecological and generational impact of violence, a powerful and rousing meditation on climate, origin, and fate.

With profound and attentive care, Vang addresses the plight of the saola, an extremely rare and critically endangered animal native to the Annamite Mountains in Laos and Vietnam. Remarkably, the saola has only been known to the outside world since 1992, and sightings are so rare that it has now been more than a decade since the last known image of one was captured in a camera trap photo in 2013.

Primordial examines the saola's relationship to Hmong refugee identity and cosmology and a shared sense of exile, precarity, privacy, and survival. Can a war-torn landscape and memory provide sanctuary, and what are the consequences for our climate, our origins, our ability to belong to a homeland? Written during a difficult pregnancy and postpartum period, Vang's poems are urgent stays against extinction.

"religion's been cruel to people like usthe darkwood sluts the good time girlsbut god as my witnesssome of us we're just trying to wrangle our powerback from the species that took it"
Jemima Foxtrot's Treasure is a shining work of alchemy and liberation which explores power dynamics, sex work, desire, and female friendship with a fresh and playful perspective. Foxtrot investigates shimmering sexualities, the economies of desire, the theft of childhood and pathways towards reclaiming it. Her language is lush: intimate, intricate, full of fertile earth's possibility. The poems of Treasure live up to its name: showing us where the gold is—the joy—how to feed it into the soil of our lives.
"Treasure is an aptly chosen title for this collection, both as a noun (that quantity of precious ore dug from the stuff of experience) and as a verb (the imperative to seek out, sing, and cherish joy through the sharing of it). Foxtrot is a savvy, sometimes savage, sensualist; her poetic speakers alert to injustice, but alive to pleasure in every way that counts. These are superbly tactile poems, poems of being-in-the-body, and being-in-the-world; they are full of wit, vigour and feminist jouissance. These are also formally exciting poems, poems that showcase a beautifully bold and oddly tender lyric defiance." Fran Lock, Hyena, T.S. Eliot Prize Shortlist

Mr. Belasco has written the following account of Peter's" evolution: [ ] The play, "The Return of Peter Grimm," is an expression in dramatic form of my ideas on a subject which I have pondered over since boyhood: "Can the dead come back?" Peter Grimm did come back. At the same time, I inserted a note in my program to say that I advanced no positive opinion; that the treatment of the play allowed the audience to believe that it had actually seen Peter, or that he had not been seen but existed merely in the minds of the characters on the stage. Spiritualists from all over the country flocked to see "The Return of Peter Grimm," and I have heard that it gave comfort to many. It was a difficult theme, and more than once I was tempted to give it up. But since it has given relief to those who have loved and lost, it was not written in vain."
