Synopsis

Plant Based Healing explores the power of plant-based remedies, herbal treatments, and whole-food nutrition to enhance health and aid recovery. It bridges traditional knowledge with modern science, revealing how plants interact with the human body at a biochemical level. The book highlights how integrating plant-based strategies can potentially complement conventional medical practices, offering a proactive approach to health outcomes.

One intriguing insight is the validation of age-old practices through contemporary research, demonstrating the enduring relevance of traditional medicine. The book begins by laying the groundwork in phytochemistry, herbal medicine, and whole-food nutrition, before delving into specific plant-based remedies for common ailments.

It then examines how combining herbal treatments with a plant-based diet can create synergistic effects, offering practical guidelines for implementation. It emphasizes the importance of nutrient density and bioavailability of whole foods.

The book concludes by addressing ethical and sustainable sourcing of medicinal plants, promoting environmental stewardship and responsible usage, vital for long-term health and fitness.

Time is up. The climate crisis is no longer a future to be feared, but a devastating reality. We see it in the wildfires in California and floods across Britain—the "once in a generation" extreme weather events that now happen every year.

In a world where those in charge are constantly letting us down, real change in our lifetime means taking power into our own hands. The task ahead of us is daunting, but the emergence of a new wave of movements focused on climate justice, equality, and solidarity also brings hope.

Asking how we have arrived at this moment, Chris Saltmarsh argues that the profoundly political nature of the environmental crisis has been relentlessly downplayed. After all, how can solar panels save us while capitalism places profit over the future of the planet? Analyzing the failures of NGOs, the limitations of Extinction Rebellion and Youth Strikes, the role of trade unions, and the possibilities of a Green New Deal, Burnt issues a powerful call for a radical collective movement: saving the world is not enough; we must build a better one in the process.

The massively popular 1990 novel Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton and its subsequent movie adaptations led to a huge resurgence in interest in dinosaurs and the prehistoric world. That interest continues to the present day, even though most of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park weren’t actually from the Jurassic period. Triceratops, Velociraptor, Tyrannosaurus Rex and the huge sauropods such as Brachiosaurus that feature in the book and movies all actually belong to the Late Cretaceous period, more than 40 million years after the end of the Jurassic. Regardless, the movie made certain kinds of dinosaurs instantly recognizable, even if associated with the wrong era.
Thanks to the movie, there has been some unwitting confusion over the identity of the Velociraptor, and this confusion was due in large part to the fact the name sounds far more scary than the creature to which the name originally belonged. Moreover, the creature to which the label was applied in the novel and movie was actually a distant cousin named Deinonychus, but as the story goes, the author, Michael Crichton, thought “Velociraptor” sounded “more dramatic.” The actual Velociraptor lived not in the badlands of North America, but in the badlands of central-eastern Asia, and it was not nearly as intimidating as Deinonychus. In fact, the main species of genus Velociraptor - Velociraptor mongoliensis - was no bigger than a turkey. Thus, in a very real sense, the Velociraptor has taken on a larger-than-life reputation.

Women physicists and astronomers from around the world have transformed science and society, but the critical roles they played in their fields are not always well-sung. Her Space, Her Time, authored by award-winning quantum physicist Shohini Ghose, brings together the stories of these remarkable women to celebrate their indelible scientific contributions.

In each chapter, Ghose explores a scientific topic and explains how the women featured revolutionized that area of physics and astronomy. In doing so, she also addresses particular aspects of women's experiences in physics and astronomy: in the chapter on time, for instance, we learn of Henrietta Leavitt and Margaret Burbidge, who helped discover the big bang and the cosmic calendar; in the chapter on space exploration, we learn of Anigaduwagi (Cherokee) aerospace scientist Mary Golda Ross, who helped make the Moon landings possible; and in the chapter on subatomic particles, we learn of Marietta Blau, Hertha Wambacher, and Bibha Chowdhuri, who contributed to the discovery of the building blocks of the universe.

Her Space, Her Time is a story of scientific innovation, inspirational leadership, and overcoming invisibility that will leave a lasting impression on any listener curious about the rule-breakers and trendsetters who illuminated our understanding of the universe.
