Sinossi

William Congreve's "The Old Bachelor" is a seminal work of Restoration comedy that deftly navigates the complexities of love, deception, and societal norms. Written in 1693, the play is characterized by its witty dialogue, clever plot twists, and an intricate web of romantic entanglements among its characters. Congreve's use of rhymed couplets and sharp repartee reflects the era's theatrical style while also allowing for critical insights into the behaviors and expectations of the 17th-century English aristocracy. The work provides a vivid examination of the bachelor's plight amidst the pressures of social propriety, encapsulating the tensions between personal desire and societal expectation. Congreve, born in 1670, was a foundational figure in English drama, often lauded for his sharp wit and keen observations about human nature. His education at Oxford and exposure to the vibrant literary scene of the time significantly influenced his writing. "The Old Bachelor" emerged during a period when themes of gender and relationships were increasingly scrutinized, reflecting both the author's personal experiences and the broader social discourse surrounding marriage and courtship. For readers seeking a masterclass in character-driven narrative and comedic timing, "The Old Bachelor" offers a compelling blend of humor and insight. Congreve's exploration of romantic relationships remains relevant, making this play an enduring contribution to the canon of English literature that invites reflection and enjoyment alike.

Didicoy offers a window into the colourful, precarious world of a multiracial Romany family, and focuses on characters at the often-untold margins of society. Blending lyricism with formal experimentation, these poems explore what it is to belong. Clear-eyed and outspoken, Didicoy has something of the impact of a contemporary Cathy Come Home.
The collection is wonderfully peopled, with an unforgettable portrait of a mother and a powerful and important depiction of life in a children's home. Writing like this, which combines real expressive skill with material which must be expressed, really reminds us what poetry is for. – Jonathan Edwards, winner of the Costa Poetry Award

An evocative collection of essays, poetry, photography and more from some of Akron, Ohio’s best authors, artists, and activists. Between 1910 and 1920, Akron, Ohio, tripled in size, making it the fastest growing city in the United States. Its period of rapid growth coincided with the expansion of the rubber and tire industry, which in turn corresponded with the automobile boom. But since the mid-1970s, industry has abandoned Akron, and the city has lost thirty-one percent of its population. Once-opulent neighborhoods are now swaths of abandoned homes, and the factories that made Akron the Rubber Capital of the World lie dormant. Edited by Jason Segedy, and bringing together established writers like Rita Dove and David Giffels with the work of emerging voices, The Akron Anthology collects essays, poems, and photographs from the writers, artists, and activists who call Akron home. "Lonely Together" is an anthology of poems crafted throughout the year 2022-2023, offering a deeply personal insight into life's trials and tribulations, even in moments of apparent prosperity. These poems serve as a concise alternative to traditional journaling, allowing me to encapsulate my thoughts and experiences with a clear beginning and end.
This audiobook is designed to be an intimate conversation, a reading where I delve into each poem, unraveling the emotions and ideas behind them. It's an opportunity for you to not only listen but also to get to know me on a deeper level as I navigate the profound themes within these verses. My intention is that you'll find resonance with these poems beyond mere recitation.
The title, "Lonely Together," carries multiple layers of meaning. It initially sprang from a text I sent, suggesting that we should "be lonely together." This phrase lingered in my thoughts, embodying the idea that no one should bear loneliness in solitude, yet also acknowledging that even within a circle of loved ones, individual loneliness can persist.
I sincerely hope you find enjoyment in this journey.
