In "More Cargoes," W. W. Jacobs continues to enchant readers with his signature blend of humor and maritime adventure. This collection of short stories revolves around the lives of sailors and the peculiarities of life at sea, showcasing Jacobs's deft storytelling and vibrant characterizations. With a rich narrative style that balances wit and pathos, Jacobs vividly captures the essence of early 20th-century maritime life, steeped in the lore and language of seafaring. From comical misadventures to more poignant reflections, the collection highlights the unpredictability of the ocean and the human spirit's resilience against it. W. W. Jacobs, born in 1863, was greatly influenced by his own experiences growing up in London, close to the bustling docks. Brimming with his signature warmth and wisdom, the Booker Prize–winning author of Time Shelter returns with a brilliant new collection of stories.

Written over three decades, The Man with Many Names gathers the best of renowned author Georgi Gospodinov’s short fiction into a single new volume. Exhibiting the author at his most playful and profound, the collection captures the peculiarities of existence across forty-one tales set in and around his beloved Bulgaria: In “A Second Story,” strangers pass their time on a train through the Balkans telling stories only to be lost in translation; in “The Late Gift,” an unhoused man becomes convinced he’s on television one frigid New Year’s Eve; and in “Blind Vaysha,” a sightless woman can see into the past and future—one through each eye. Haunting these pages is a flaneur named Gaustine, a familiar trickster known to longtime Gospodinov fans. With bold leaps through time and place, and masterfully translated by Angela Rodel, this is another wildly inventive contribution from “one of the indispensable writers of our times” (International Booker Prize Jury).

William Butler Yeats was born in Sandymount in County Dublin, Ireland on 13th June 1865.
His early years moved between Ireland and England. By his mid-teens he was writing but those works were described as ‘entirely Un-Irish’. With Ernest Rhys he founded the Rhymers Club. Based at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese in Fleet Street it’s best described as a drinking club for performing poets. Yeats later cited them as ‘The Tragic Generation’. By now Yeats was writing and publishing poetry and stories that were profoundly based in Irish folklore.
Yeats is perhaps best described as Ireland’s national poet in addition to being one of the major twentieth-century literary figures of the English tongue. He represents the ‘Romantic poet of modernism,’ with an extraordinary style created from the outward emphasis on the expression of emotions and the extensive use of symbolism, imagery and allusions.
In 1923 his fame was brought to an even wider audience when he received the Nobel Prize in Literature.
His personal life was driven by his many relationships in love and by his great interest in oriental mysticism and occultism. Yeats also wrote prose and drama and, as an ardent Nationalist, established himself as a spokesman of the Irish cause and served as an Irish senator for two terms.
W B Yeats died at the Hôtel Idéal Séjour, in Menton, France, on 28th January 1939. He was 73.
