Beschreibung

In "The Cutting of an Agate," W. B. Yeats presents a rich tapestry of poetic reflections that blend personal experience with broader philosophical themes. Utilizing a modernist literary style, Yeats explores the intricate nature of existence, consciousness, and the passage of time through vivid imagery and symbolic language. The collection, drawn from his later years, reveals Yeats's mastery of form and structure, intertwining lyricism and complex thematic undercurrents akin to the works of contemporaries like Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot, while remaining deeply rooted in Irish cultural motifs and mythology. Yeats, a pivotal figure in the Irish literary renaissance and a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature, was profoundly influenced by his lifelong engagement with mysticism, symbolism, and his fervent nationalism. His experiences in the tumultuous political landscape of early 20th-century Ireland, alongside his personal pursuits in spirituality and aesthetics, shaped the philosophical inquiries that resonate throughout this work. The agate metaphor in the title exemplifies Yeats's quest to uncover the layered meanings of life and art, revealing hidden truths beneath the surface. This compelling collection is highly recommended for readers seeking an accessible yet profound exploration of the human condition. Yeats's insights into love, loss, and the quest for meaning make this work essential for scholars and poetry enthusiasts alike. Delve into "The Cutting of an Agate" to discover the delicate interplay between the visible and the concealed, and appreciate Yeats's enduring legacy as one of the greatest poets of the modern era.

A memoir made of poetry, Dress Rehearsals documents a decade of performing womanhood in a non-binary body.
Dress Rehearsals is a raw and beautiful exploration of what it means to be feminine. Beginning with teenage yearning, these poems both celebrate and grieve Madison's sexual awakening as they transition into the glittering femme fatale.
Navigating first love, menstruation, chronic illness, sex and patriarchal power dynamics, Dress Rehearsals is a coming-of-age story that has never been told - a decade of performing womanhood in an elaborate and shifting costume.
This collection is a unique and transformative experience and, with its careful balance of dark humour and warmth, a queer celebration of gender.

I believe in God when I see
a dandelion pressing through the rupture in the pavement.
A tiny golden sun forcing its way through the darkness,
    hell-bent on growing.

Recognizing the sacred in the everyday, protecting an ailing earth, opening to wonder—these reflections, along with contemplations on the importance of poop, skunks, monarch butterflies, and even bacteria became the urgent subjects of poems written in the space of a few weeks in the winter of 2020-2021. Skunk in the Wilderness reflects the global concerns of that moment in history, in the midst of the pandemic, as well as the personal concerns of the poet’s relationship to his ageing parents and his own life path. Louis Gignac writes passionately and provocatively of the need to protect the earth and connect to nature, with a multitude of subthemes, ranging from relationships to pollution, and from screen addiction to water fasting. Skunk in the Wilderness is above all about becoming conscious.

Publisher’s Note:Two years ago, when we published Pranab Raha’s collection of essays ‘Akopat’, we promised the readers that we will bring more of his works in the future. Hence, we are pleased to bring you his second published audiobook ‘Charminar’.‘Charminar’ is a collection of four short and long stories by the author that are basically satirical in nature. In this book, he has brought out the subtle aspects of human character in a humorous approach. Like all his writings, these stories too, have an unspoken hidden message, that a sophisticated reader would have no difficulty in grasping. We hope that ‘Charminar’, like the author’s first book ‘Akopat’ published by us will be well received by the readers.Author’s Note:The intersection of time and technology has brought about some changes in the way people consume literature. Recognizing this change, I have published an audiobook of four stories, embracing this transformation. However, for enthusiastic readers, the printed hard copy of the book will also be made available very soon.Since the four stories are narrated by four different narrators in distinct styles, the stories do not possess the same qualities in all aspects.Nevertheless, if the stories provide an enjoyable listening experience, then the efforts and contributions of those involved in this endeavour, although somewhat limited, will be worthwhile.

The sun has descended below the far horizon. The inky blackness of night begins to envelop the land. Day has gone and the nocturnal times reveal themselves. But above the dark blanket the moon, whether waxing or waning, stands sentry and around it vast clouds and swirls of stars regiment themselves. We look up in awe and wonder, frail beneath their vista.
Our gloried poets are on hand though to capture word and deed, emotion and feeling, friend and foe. Among our ranks of astounding talents are Keats, Byron, Wordsworth, Hardy, Poe, Shelley, Longfellow and many more beside. 'In the Kingdom of Fife, in the days of long ago, there lived an old man and his wife. The old man was a douce, quiet body, but the old woman was lightsome and flighty, and some of the neighbours were wont to look at her askance, and whisper to each other that they sorely feared that she was a Witch.'
Elizabeth W. Grierson tells the tale of the famous witches of Fife, and what happens when one's husband gets a little too curious... This short story is one of a compilation from Grierson's 'The Scottish Fairy Book', first published in 1910, and is read by Stephanie MacGaraidh.

    Nouri al-Jarrah

Syrian poet Nouri al-Jarrah brings to life a story that can never again be lost in time after a single line in Aramaic on a tombstone fired his imagination. This inspiring epic poem awakens two extraordinary lovers, Barates, a Syrian from Palmyra, and Regina, the Celtic slave he freed and married, from where they have lain at rest beside Hadrian's Wall for eighteen centuries, and tells their unique story.
Barates' elegy to his beloved wife, who died young at 30, is, however, not about mythologising history. With the poet himself an exile in Britain for 40 years from his birthplace of Damascus, the poem forges new connections with today, linking al-Jarrah's personal journey with that of his ancient forebear Barates, who resisted slavery with love.
Barates' Eastern song also questions whether the young Celtic fighters, the Tattooed Ones, were really barbarians, as they emerged from forest mists to defend their hills and rivers and their way of life from the Romans, and died or lay wounded at the twisting stone serpent that was Hadrian's Wall.
