Literary Theory for Robots reveals the hidden history of modern machine intelligence, taking listeners on a spellbinding journey from medieval Arabic philosophy to visions of a universal language, past Hollywood fiction factories, and missile defense systems trained on Russian folktales. In this provocative reflection on the shared pasts of literature and computer science, former Microsoft engineer and professor of comparative literature Dennis Yi Tenen provides crucial context for recent developments in AI, which holds important lessons for the future of humans living with smart technology.

Intelligence expressed through technology should not be mistaken for a magical genie, capable of self-directed thought or action. Rather, in highly original and effervescent prose with a generous dose of wit, Yi Tenen asks us to read past the artifice—to better perceive the mechanics of collaborative work. Something as simple as a spell-checker or a grammar-correction tool, embedded in every word-processor, represents the culmination of a shared human effort, spanning centuries.

With its masterful blend of history, technology, and philosophy, Yi Tenen's work ultimately urges us to view AI as a matter of labor history, celebrating the long-standing cooperation between authors and engineers.

A concise introduction to the NIST CSF 2.0The NIST CSF (Cybersecurity Framework) 2.0 is designed to protect organizations from cyber attacks. Although the CSF was developed to help US organizations involved in infrastructure to systematically organize their critical activities and ensure they remain up to date, Version 2.0 states that "The CSF is designed to be used by organizations of all sizes and sectors, including industry, government, academia, and nonprofit organizations, regardless of the maturity level of their cybersecurity programs." NIST 2.0 is an effective and flexible framework that is well-known across the US, and increasingly across the rest of the world. It also aligns closely with ISO 27001 and ISO 22301, and all three standards can operate concurrently. This audiobook will help you understand how to:- Begin implementing the NIST CSF 2.0 in your organization- Build a cybersecurity program, adapt an existing one, or review existing security practices- Integrate the NIST CSF 2.0 with other frameworks such as ISO 27001 and ISO 22301Organizations that comply with the NIST CSF 2.0, ISO 27001, and ISO 22301 demonstrate their commitment to cybersecurity to current and prospective stakeholders.

Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a viral infection caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the same virus responsible for chickenpox. Once a person recovers from chickenpox, the virus remains dormant in nerve tissues and can reactivate years or even decades later, leading to shingles. This condition is characterized by a painful rash that typically appears on one side of the body or face, often in a band-like pattern. While shingles is not a life-threatening illness, it can cause significant discomfort and, in some cases, lead to long-term complications such as postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a persistent nerve pain that can last for months or even years after the rash has healed.
The history of shingles dates back to ancient times, with early descriptions found in medical texts from different cultures. However, it was not until the 20th century that researchers discovered its link to the varicella-zoster virus. The introduction of the chickenpox vaccine in the 1990s significantly reduced the number of new chickenpox cases, which in turn is expected to lower the incidence of shingles over time. Nevertheless, shingles remains a common condition, particularly among older adults and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Understanding who is at risk for shingles is essential for prevention and early intervention. While anyone who has had chickenpox can develop shingles, the likelihood increases with age. The immune system naturally weakens as people grow older, making those over the age of 50 particularly vulnerable. Individuals with compromised immune systems, such as those undergoing chemotherapy, people with HIV/AIDS, or patients on long-term immunosuppressive medications, are also at an increased risk. Additionally, factors such as stress, chronic illness, and certain medical conditions can contribute to the reactivation of the virus.
