Synopsis

Born in 1860 in a small Czech town, Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was an artist on the forefront of Art Nouveau, the modernist movement that swept Paris in the 1910s, marking a return to the simplicity of natural forms, and changing the world of art and design forever. In fact, Art Nouveau was known to insiders as the “Mucha style” for the legions of imitators who adapted the master’s celebrated tableaux. Today, his distinctive depictions of lithe young women in classical dress have become a pop cultural touchstone, inspiring album covers, comic books, and everything in between. Patrick Bade and Victoria Charles offer readers an inspiring survey of Mucha’s career, illustrated with over one hundred lustrous images, from early Parisian advertisements and posters for Sandra Bernhardt, to the famous historical murals painted just before his death, at the age of 78, in 1939.

What does it take to lead people into a burning building? How do the leaders of the New York City Fire Department develop so much loyalty, trust, and grace under pressure that their subordinates will risk their very lives for them?As a high-ranking officer of the FDNY, John Salka is an expert at both practicing and teaching high-stakes leadership. In First In, Last Out, he explains the department's unique strategies and how they can be adopted by leaders in any field—as he has taught them to organizations around the country. In a tough-talking, no-nonsense style, Salka uses real-world stories to convey leadership imperatives such as:● First in, last out—your people need to see you taking the biggest risk, as the first one to enter the danger zone and the last to leave● Manage change—the fire you fought yesterday is not the one you'll be fighting tomorrow● Communicate aggressively—a working radio is worth more than 20,000 gallons of water● Create an execution culture—focus your people on the flames, not the smoke● Commit to reality—never allow the way you would like things to be to color how things are

From Thistles to Snakes, Poison Ivy to Mosquitoes, these nature beings convey messages that are relevant to every human, showing us how to live in balance and harmony on this Earth. Through journeys filled with surprises, humor, and foibles, follow Maria’s evolution from being annoyed with to accepting—and even falling in love with—our most difficult neighbors (including human ones). Throughout, she shares an essential truth that resonates across her shamanic explorations: we first must heal our own hearts, for only then can we truly love others and begin to heal planet Earth.

After purchasing a new electric car to avoid catching the coronavirus on mass transit, Charles St. Anthony needed to come up with some money fast. Hoping to rake in some big tips, Charles decided to do Postmates in the areas the rich and famous play.
In this humorous short read, Charles explores Beverly Hills and the neighboring areas of Los Angeles using food delivery apps. He takes you down the rabbit hole of Beverly History, and introduces affordable things to eat in America's most glamorous zip code: 90210! Charles serves up "Beverly Hills on a Budget" by introducing economical (but delicious) food he discovered in Beverly Hills—foods that taste expensive but come at prices everyone can enjoy.
After completing more than 500 deliveries via Postmates, DoorDash, and Uber Eats you'll learn what people in LA—a city known for health and fitness—truly eat. The answer might be greasier than you're expecting! Also, Charles answers pressing questions such as what was the most popular type of Taco Bell sauce packet, what food truck has the most devoted fan base, and what was the total number of French fries ordered in his 500+ deliveries. It's a feel-good, laugh out loud short read that shows how food delivery apps offered a path to dignity to people who needed to eat and people who struggled to make money in the pandemic era.
"Quirky, insightful and witty." Jack Scott (Author), Perking the Pansies
    Contains humor with adult language.
