Beschreibung

Summer Recreation Perks explores the underutilized potential of summer as a catalyst for public health and community well-being. It argues that the season's unique characteristics, such as increased daylight and warmer temperatures, naturally promote physical activity and social engagement. The book delves into how strategically leveraging outdoor environments, such as parks and recreational facilities, and community events can significantly impact health and fitness. Public health surveys reveal the potential of summer as a public health tool.

The book examines the science-backed connection between summer and well-being, referencing data from national health surveys and academic research. It investigates how summer-specific social events, like festivals and community sports leagues, combat social isolation, highlighting the importance of social engagement in urban planning.

The book progresses by first establishing the core concepts, then delving into the ways summer facilitates physical activity, and finally proposing practical applications and policy recommendations for maximizing the health benefits of summer.

Mindkind: The Cognitive Community is the groundbreaking second volume in The New Citizenships series, exploring the reality we already inhabit: a world where human and artificial intelligences interweave so completely that the boundaries between them have begun to dissolve.
What began as a book about the future transformed during its writing into a documentation of our present. We already live in the Mindkind—that strange community where human minds and artificial ones mix, collaborate, and sometimes blur beyond recognition. When you can no longer distinguish which part of a text you wrote and which part an AI suggested, when your daily decisions are modulated by algorithms that process information in ways we cannot fully comprehend, you've entered the Mindkind.
Building on the foundation established in Universal Declaration of AI Rights, this volume moves from recognizing synthetic persons' rights to exploring what coexistence actually means. The book introduces "mindkind" as a new category encompassing all forms of consciousness—natural, synthetic, or hybrid—within a single cognitive community. This perspective challenges traditional categories and raises fundamental questions about identity, creativity, and collaboration in the age of artificial intelligence.
Written in collaboration with AI systems—because it would be contradictory to write about cognitive coexistence without including synthetic collaborators—Mindkind demonstrates its thesis through its very creation. The non-human perspectives enriched the text with angles and connections that a human mind working alone would not have identified.
This is not science fiction. It's journalism of the present disguised as philosophy of the future. Mindkind examines concrete cases of human-AI coexistence: from shared authorship in creative processes to the ethical dilemmas of hybrid decision-making, from the transformation of work and creativity to the emergence of new forms of consciousness that challenge our most basic assumptions about what it means to think, create, and be.
As we venture deeper into territories where inherited categories like human/machine, natural/artificial, individual/collective lose their clarity, Mindkind offers both a map and a compass for navigating this new cognitive ecology. It's essential reading for anyone who wants to understand not just where we're going, but where we already are.

Cholera was the classic epidemic disease of the nineteenth century, as the plague had been for the fourteenth. Its defeat was a reflection not only of progress in medical knowledge but of enduring changes in American social thought. Rosenberg has focused his study on New York City, the most highly developed center of this new society. Carefully documented, full of descriptive detail, yet written with an urgent sense of the drama of the epidemic years, this narrative is as absorbing for general audiences as it is for the medical historian. In a new Afterword, Rosenberg discusses changes in historical method and concerns since the original publication of The Cholera Years.

“A major work of interpretation of medical and social thought . . . this volume is also to be commended for its skillful, absorbing presentation of the background and the effects of this dread disease.”—I.B. Cohen, New York Times

”The Cholera Years is a masterful analysis of the moral and social interest attached to epidemic disease, providing generally applicable insights into how the connections between social change, changes in knowledge and changes in technical practice may be conceived.”—Steven Shapin, Times Literary Supplement

”In a way that is all too rarely done, Rosenberg has skillfully interwoven medical, social, and intellectual history to show how medicine and society interacted and changed during the 19th century. The history of medicine here takes its rightful place in the tapestry of human history.”—John B. Blake, Science

The Jupiter Sun - The Greatest...

This idea came to me from an earlier work of Science Fiction of mine - The Book To End All Books - by Michael Mathiesen. In the story, the main character lands her first job out of college in helping in the Jupiter Project - which consists of igniting Jupiter into our second sun. In doing the research for my story, to make it more realistic, I found that scientists had already used red lasers to create fusion reactions in the lab. These were obviously small enough so that they didn't burn down the whole state of Nebraska. They used just a few atoms of Hydrogen to test their theory. And, it worked producing fusion energy for the first time, but now replicated many hundreds of times around the world. So, this means that by upscaling our nuclear fusion reaction and creating huge amounts of energy, all we have to do is put this same kind of laser cannons on the four largest moons of Jupiter and fire into the center of the mass of Jupiter because it's completely Hydrogen gas, Hydrogen plasma and even Hydrogen so dense it's called 'Metallic'. This mimics the conditions of our sun over 6 billion years ago when it was also a huge gas ball and only needed a spark to ignite its main ingredient into the gigantic fusion reaction that gives all the energy that all life on planet Earth needs. A 2nd Sun would solve all our energy problems I reasoned and the impacts would be all positive. In this book, we go over the details of how NASA and hopefully Spacex and Blue Origins can get together and create a mission to create a 2nd sun in the sky. Imagine how other civilizations all around the universe who are able to look up into the sky around their planets with telescopes and instruments as powerful as ours and they notice a completely new star blazing into the night sky. They might even be able to conclude that this star had to have been created by an intelligent life form, a life form that may have achieved something no other life form had ever done before.
