Beschreibung

Lee writes with unfailing warmth and wisdom. Sarah Waters. A gripping psychological thriller about trauma, revenge and the price of reinvention. In the crumbling seaside town of Hawksbridge, Shona finds kinship with the eccentric Gifford family living illegally in a derelict building. Their stories of survival give her the courage to paint again-until she discovers a body wrapped in carpet, and everything starts to unravel. Richard knows her secrets. He's documented every shameful detail of her childhood, from the fire she set at fifteen to the deaths that followed. Now he's weaponising that knowledge, jeopardizing her relationships and her future. But Shona has learned something important from the misfits of Hawksbridge: sometimes the only way to break free is to embrace the darkness you've been running from. As New Year's Day dawns, Shona faces a choice that will define who she really is. Because some shadows can't be escaped-they can only be owned

John Watts has spent his life moving, traveling, and finding comfort in motion. When a journey to a massive national exposition places him among strangers, memories surface—of a marriage built on shared roads, shared jokes, and a shared love of America itself. What begins as an ordinary trip slowly becomes something far stranger, as familiar sights blur into something dreamlike and impossibly connected.
As Watts wanders the fairgrounds, encounters take on a heightened meaning. People seem to know him. Kindness appears without explanation. Loss softens, replaced by a sense of belonging he thought was gone forever. The celebration grows larger, richer, and more surreal, building toward a moment that challenges what Watts believes about love, memory, and where a life truly ends.
Robert A. Heinlein was one of the defining voices of twentieth-century science fiction, shaping the genre with stories that combined speculative ideas with deeply human concerns. While he is often associated with hard science fiction and future societies, Heinlein also wrote intimate, emotional stories that explored identity, duty, and personal freedom.
The Elephant Circuit reveals a gentler side of Heinlein’s work. Rather than focusing on technology or conflict, it reflects on companionship, grief, and the quiet joy of shared experience. It stands as a reminder that science fiction can be not only about imagined futures, but also about honoring the lives we have lived.

Astonishing prophecies of the saints about The Warning, Three Days of Darkness, and more come to life in a supernatural thriller.
Eighteen months ago, the Earth survived a comet strike. Famine, economic depression, and soaring crime rates rode in on its tail. While the government scrambles for solutions, Gina Applegate vlogs about college life and current events. God doesn't figure large in her life. Nonetheless, Gina thinks she's a pretty good person until a mystical event called The Warning gives her a glimpse of hell, shaking her fragile faith. As the world slips deeper into darkness, the gulf between the godly and the godless widens, leaving no middle ground. Everyone must choose a side.
Before the comet comes, many nations, the good excepted, will be scourged by want and famine. The great nation in the ocean that is inhabited by people of different tribes and descent will be devastated by earthquake, storm, and tidal wave. It will be divided and, in great part, submerged . . . For in none of those cities does a person live according to the Laws of God. A powerful wind will rise in the North, carrying heavy fog and the densest dust, and it will fill their throats and eyes so that they will cease their butchery and be stricken with a great fear. ~Saint Hildegard (12th Century)
The actual prophecies upon which this novel is based are included at the end.
CONTENT WARNING: Comet Dust springs from a Catholic worldview. However, the story is set in a secular world in a rapid decline. Expect some strong language, sexual situations, and violence.

The threats I've been facing in this world, well, it's like playing whack-a-mole.

The local aristocrats are still conspiring to put roadblocks in the path of the ever more powerful Bulatov Family. And then I have the offworlders from another world—they haven't gone anywhere, either.

They're still opening portals and sending through invaders, although, thus far, these attacks have been isolated grabs for loot and prisoners. A portal opens, offworlders dash out, get what they can, and retreat.

For me, the offworlders have generally been an irritant and not much more. In contrast, the aristocratic enemies within my new world have consumed far more of my energy. That being said, it looks like now, the offworlders have managed to unite, and take over the city neighboring Arkhangelsk.

Does that mean that it is now time for me to turn my attention to ushering out the guests from another world? And will this offworld threat force these local aristocrats to drop their hostilities and band together against our common enemy?

Hard to say, but, like usual, I can only really count on myself and my forces.

Let's just hope I have what it takes to get the job done!
