  Five insomniacs try to make it through the night. From dusk to dawn, they struggle with a crisis in their lives which they must resolve by morning. Increasingly conscious of their shortening futures and lengthening pasts, they fill their nights with distracting activities, desperate sleep techniques, evaluations of their lives, delusions, fears, panics and utter foolishness as they prepare to face the day.
  Five Characters in Search of a Good Night's Sleep was first performed by ViSiBLE Theatre Ensemble at Southwark Playhouse, London, in 2022, in a production directed by Mike Alfreds. It was devised and written by Mike Alfreds with Sonja Linden and members of the company.
  ViSiBLE is a theatre company dedicated to creating performance work that throws fresh perspectives on later life and living longer. A key aspect of its identity is creating work collaboratively, drawing on the creativity and talent of Britain's huge wealth of experienced older actors.

  The Prophet

  The Prophet is a book of prose poetry that made its Lebanese-American author Kahlil Gibran famous.
  Originally published in 1923, the book begins with a man named Almustafa living on an island called Orphalese. Locals consider him something of a sage, but he is from elsewhere and has waited twelve years for the right ship to take him home. From a hill above the town, he sees his ship coming into the harbor, and realizes his sadness at leaving the people he has come to know. The elders of the city ask him not to leave. He is asked to tell of his philosophy of life before he goes, to speak his truth to the crowds gathered. What he has to say forms the basis of the book.

  Angelique wants nothing more than to meet her personal Prince Charming. She becomes involved in a domestic case, and the officer in the case takes a liking to her stern attitude and brilliance in domestic law. 
  Frederick comes back after being shunned and verbally excused from this teacher’s presence. She is aware of everything, except that he is readily and eagerly interested in her. After accepting a hasty date decision, Angelique decides that maybe a Prince Charming may come to her after all. 
  Mystery and suspense fill this man’s life, making Angelique wary of whom she is actually with. Could this be the honest officer that suddenly asked her out? Should she really be here or think twice about the whole thing? Every decision seems to be made for Angelique, although she feels she is making each one on her own. 
  Will Angelique find her true Prince Charming? Will Mr. Frederick be as special and wonderful and beautiful as he is making everything around her? Or will she be at wits end again, wondering if her Prince Charming will ever show?
