The Catholic Social Teaching (CST) Rome Exchange: Advanced Training Experience (CREATE) is the new initiative of the Faculty of Social Science (FASS) at the Pontifical University Saint Thomas Aquinas – Angelicum in Rome. Currently focused on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), it provides ways for students and experts in Catholic social teaching (CST) to access resources and training in Rome, so as to develop their knowledge and their capability in using CST for resolving problems faced in their local reality.
Catholic social teaching Rome Exchange: Advanced Training Experience – starts from two basic ideas: (1) Catholic social thought is a powerful resource in the mission of the Church today, but often it needs to be more widely known and better operationalised in practical situations; (2) Rome is a centre for the development of Catholic social thought; by bringing students and experts to Rome for short or longer stays, we can help them to improve their knowledge of CST and practical skills in implementing it, while ensuring that they stay connected with their home region.
CREATE is an integrated set of 5 activities: Expert Council [EC]: a network of professors and experts from different Catholic Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs) in the region meeting once a year in Rome; CREATE Prize [CP]: an annual competition starting in 2021, for an original essay by a young researcher/student from the CEE on some application of CST to society; Salamanca Process Scholarships [SP]: doctorate scholarship and post-doc scholarships for Dominican candidates (sisters and brothers) from Central and Eastern Europe, as part of the Salamanca Process of the Dominican Order; Laudato si’ Scholarships [LS]: doctorate and post-doc scholarships for young people from the CEE region to develop their research in their home countries and institutions, with support from FASS professors. Laudato si’ scholars will come in Rome regularly over a 2-3-year period, in order to take advantage of the resources provided by the FASS and the central Catholic institutions in Rome. CST Toolkit Scholarships [TX]: a semester-long programme of courses in CST (January to June, starting in 2022) for CEE students at the masters or doctorate level.

Between social media platforms, the videos kids watch online, or the television shows they can now stream from anywhere at any time, keeping up with what our kids are doing has become more difficult than ever. Still, there has not been an influence quite like the video gaming world. For a time, video games were as simple as a blue hedgehog running from one side of the screen to the other. Now, video games create grand adventures of secret societies, alien races that have come to destroy entire galaxies, or dark forces that have arrived to destroy ancient kingdoms. Video games can display wondrous environments but can also house blood and gore. They can create adventures that get kids through rainy days but can also trap them in their rooms for untold amounts of time. This leaves many parents with one of two choices. They can either ignore the problems, or they can simply not allow their children to play games at all. Drew Dixon, co-founder of Love Thy Nerd, a ministry that exists to be the love of Jesus to nerds and nerd culture, offers a better way. Let’s face it: the digital age has changed the way we parent. So, instead of ignoring what your children are playing or removing the games altogether, Know Thy Gamer offers an opportunity for parents to understand their children and the kinds of games they are playing. By discussing some of the most important movements in the gaming world, Drew guides parents to understanding and loving their gamers through a Christian lens.

The constraints of the spiritual life, practiced in community, are what set us free. Practicing spiritual disciplines can seem difficult, especially when we undertake them as isolated individuals. But we were never meant to practice them alone.
Jared Patrick Boyd reveals how the constraints practiced in Christian community shape us into the way of Christ. He re-anchors the practices of constraint within the ascetic tradition of monasticism, religious orders, and the early church fathers. Boyd writes, "The constraints of a rule of life are what make life together, lived for one another, possible. A rule of life is not meant to be primarily personal, but communal. It's not primarily meant to guide my life. It is meant to describe our way of life together." Constraint is the practice of learning to pay deeper attention to the things in our inner world that prevent us from progressing in the school of love.
Discover a deep conversation on freedom and constraint with six core practices of constraint that can form in us a greater freedom to be and become people who love as God loves. Enter into this vision with your local community (in small groups, church leadership teams, or families), and learn to make greater room to experience the love of God.

Josh Barnes was just nine when he received an invaluable gift from God: the ability to play guitar to the utmost perfection. He could recognize each note and play every chord to create the most beautiful melodies ever heard. In no time, he became the pride of his hometown, and many believed he was on the road to becoming the youngest and most talented guitarist of his time.
However, his ambitions were thwarted when his niece, Elena, was diagnosed with cancer. Losing all hope, the only way he could ensure her survival and his brother's happiness was to make a deal with the Devil. The catch? He had to give up God's gift and never play his guitar again.
Thus, the once-celebrated young talent of Comanche had to choose the dreary life of a truck driver, giving up his gift and his dreams so that his niece would get cured. But much to his disappointment, after being cured, Elena turned out to be quite selfish and caused much trouble to their family.
The roads ahead of Josh were different from what he had dreamt of, but Josh refused to give up. Will he be able to fulfill all the conditions, or will Elena's temper drive him to break that deal?
