Beschreibung

"The Boys' And Girls' Library" is a richly curated anthology that spans diverse genres and themes, tailored specifically for young readers. This compilation boasts an array of stories designed to inspire imagination, foster moral development, and ignite a passion for literature. Through whimsical prose and engaging narratives, the book reflects the Victorian literary context, featuring contributions from renowned authors of the time, while also incorporating illustrations that create a captivating reading experience for children and adolescents. The collection is a testament to the editorial vision of its various contributors who aimed to instill a love of literature in the younger generation. Grounded in the educational philosophies of the 19th century, especially the belief in the moral and intellectual elevation that literature provides, these authors recognized the powerful role that storytelling plays in shaping young minds. They finely balanced entertainment with educational value, often drawing from personal experiences and cultural backgrounds that resonate with universal themes of adventure, friendship, and growth. I wholeheartedly recommend "The Boys' And Girls' Library" to readers of all ages. It serves not only as an excellent resource for young readers seeking adventure and insight into human experiences but also as a nostalgic trip for adults who wish to share the joys of classic literature with the next generation.

KOKO the Caterpillar lived peacefully on her beloved lettuce leaf until a fierce storm washed her far from home. Lost and frightened, she embarked on an epic journey to find her way back, meeting many garden creatures along the way.
Her first encounter was with Burt the Beetle, who unhelpfully suggested she live underground. Next, she met Sylvia the Spider, who offered risky web-swinging advice, and Andy the Ant, who was too busy to provide proper directions. Throughout her journey, KOKO had to hide from Percy the Gardener, who disliked caterpillars, though she couldn't understand why.
KOKO's adventures continued as she met Bella the Butterfly, who inspired her with stories of transformation and taught her that change could be beautiful. At a pond, she encountered Freddy the Frog, who suggested swimming but nearly led her into danger. Wally the Worm tried to help from his muddy underground home, though his advice wasn't very useful either.
A terrifying bird chase forced KOKO to hide and reminded her of the constant dangers she faced. However, her luck changed when she met Rosie the Ladybug, whose cheerful optimism lifted her spirits, and Oliver the Grasshopper, who helped her realize how much she had grown and learned during her journey.
With her new friends' help, KOKO finally found her way back to the lettuce patch. But upon returning home, she began feeling strange urges to spin and sleep. Her friends explained that she was ready for transformation. KOKO spun herself into a cocoon, and after weeks of metamorphosis, emerged as a beautiful butterfly with orange, black, and white wings.
As a butterfly, KOKO gained a new perspective on the garden and even Percy the Gardener, realizing he loved the garden too and simply hadn't understood that caterpillars become helpful butterflies. The garden became a harmonious community where all creatures learned to appreciate each other's roles.

WINNER OF THE YALSA AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN NONFICTION FOR YOUNG ADULTS

Here are the shocking, yet true, stories of presidential medical cover-ups from the 19th to the 21st century—the latest thrilling title in award-winning author Gail Jarrow’s Medical Fiascoes series for readers ages 10 and up.

Did you know President Woodrow Wilson suffered a paralyzing stroke that his wife and doctors concealed for months? Or that Mrs. Wilson took total charge of his presidential duties? Neither did the American public. Did you know President John F. Kennedy suffered from Addison’s disease and was heavily medicated for years? Neither did most people. Too often when a president is sick or dying, he and the people around him have hidden his condition from the public, wanting to project an image of strength and power.

In this fascinating and provocative new installment in her acclaimed Medical Fiascoes series, author Gail Jarrow explores presidential cover-ups from the 19th to the 21st century—from James Garfield to Joe Biden. White House Secrets provides the historical context to help young readers understand issues of media literacy and presidential candor that are more relevant than ever in the 21st century.

"Well researched and succinctly written, each chapter tells a different tale based on secrets kept by presidents and those who wanted to protect them. An intriguing topic explored in compelling true stories."—Booklist
