Effie Waller Smith was an African-American poet, born on January 6, 1879. She published three volumes of poetry: Songs of the Month & Rhymes From the Cumberland in 1904, and Rosemary and Pansies in 1909. In 1917, after publishing her poem "Autumn Winds" in Harper's Magazine, she stopped writing. She passed away peacefully in 1960.
