Synopsis

In "American Independence and the French Revolution (1760-1801)", a collection of scholarly essays, various authors delve into the intricate interplay between the American struggle for independence and the subsequent French revolutionary fervor. This volume meticulously examines the ideological, political, and cultural exchanges that shaped revolutionary thought across the Atlantic. Through a blend of close readings of primary texts and broader socio-political analyses, the authors illuminate how Enlightenment ideals catalyzed movements for liberty and democracy in both nations, interweaving narratives of freedom that resonate through history. The book's literary style reflects a rigorous academic tone, augmented by a clear structure aiding in the reader's comprehension of complex historical dynamics. The contributors to this volume come from varied academic backgrounds, each bringing a unique perspective shaped by their research in American and French history, revolutionary studies, and political philosophy. Their collective expertise provides a rich context for understanding not just the historical events, but also the philosophical underpinnings that drove both revolutions. This compilation draws connections that reveal how each revolution's outcomes influenced subsequent political thoughts and movements, thereby transforming the landscape of modern governance. For scholars, students, and enthusiasts of history alike, this book is an indispensable resource. It not only enriches our understanding of pivotal moments in history but also encourages reflective thought on the nature of liberty and the shared human quest for self-determination. Its relevant insights into contemporary political discourse make it a timely and critical read.

All living beings want to be eternally fulfilled and happy, without misery, without suffering. All of our struggles and all of our desires are to become fulfilled, it doesn't matter if we are fat or fit, poor or rich, black or white, this country or that country everybody across the board wants to be limitless, feel fulfilled, feel lasting happiness without any misery.
According to the ancient Rishis, the true source of happiness lies within you. Even though many people, especially spiritual seekers, intuitively understand that the true source of happiness is within, their day-to-day behaviour doesn't seem to reflect this understanding at all. Because there is some confusion about this fact, a strong conviction that happiness is within is missing. The experience of fullness is missing. The path of self-inquiry is a method of Jnana yoga the Yoga of Knowledge. It is an inquiry into, 'Who or what am I?' This is said to be the direct path to overcoming all the suffering and finding lasting fulfilment. Made famous by the great 20th-century saint, Sri Ramana Maharshi, the origin of this is in the ancient Indian philosophical texts Upanishads.
Unless we know what or who we are, how can we know what we truly seek? According to the yoga of knowledge, the root cause of all our suffering is due to our mistaken conception of ourselves, So, it's not due to the problems in the world. It's not due to financial hardship. It's not due to relationship problems. It's not even due to physical or mental problems. It's due to a wrong idea. It's due to ignorance of our true nature. We know we exist, but what we are is not very clear to us. And to discover what we truly are is the goal of the yoga of knowledge, and self-inquiry is the method. This path is an inquiry into oneself and not getting caught in the humdrum of existence, which is too noisy. Listening to the music of the true self.

The Performer - Art Life Politics

An acclaimed sociologist's exploration of the connections among performances in life, art, and politics

In The Performer, Richard Sennett explores the relations between performing in art (particularly music), politics, and everyday experience. It focuses on the bodily and physical dimensions of performing, rather than on words. Sennett is particularly attuned to the ways in which the rituals of ordinary life are performances.

The book draws on history and sociology, and more personally on the author’s early career as a professional cellist, as well as on his later work as a city planner and social thinker. It traces the evolution of performing spaces in the city; the emergence of actors, musicians, and dancers as independent artists; the inequality between performer and spectator; the uneasy relations between artistic creation and social and religious ritual; the uses and abuses of acting by politicians. The Janus-faced art of performing is both destructive and civilizing.
