Beschreibung

It was four o’clock when the ceremony was over and the carriages began to arrive. There had been a crowd following all the way, owing to the exuberance of Marija Berczynskas. The occasion rested heavily upon Marija’s broad shoulders—it was her task to see that all things went in due form, and after the best home traditions; and, flying wildly hither and thither, bowling every one out of the way, and scolding and exhorting all day with her tremendous voice, Marija was too eager to see that others conformed to the proprieties to consider them herself. She had left the church last of all, and, desiring to arrive first at the hall, had issued orders to the coachman to drive faster. When that personage had developed a will of his own in the matter, Marija had flung up the window of the carriage, and, leaning out, proceeded to tell him her opinion of him, first in Lithuanian, which he did not understand, and then in Polish, which he did. Having the advantage of her in altitude, the driver had stood his ground and even ventured to attempt to speak; and the result had been a furious altercation, which, continuing all the way down Ashland Avenue, had added a new swarm of urchins to the cortege at each side street for half a mile.

Written by Rex Flint, the former Pentagon cyber operator who turns classified nightmares into edge-of-your-seat thrillers. Narrated by Juli Brooks, also a former Pentagon communications specialist and professional voice-actor who brings stories to life.
    Monsters aren’t born. They’re engineered.
When a flash flood seals off Tall Pines, Georgia, ex–Air Force investigator Archer Lucas is dropped into a nightmare. Locals whisper about the Wampus Cat. The truth is uglier: A secret research lab has turned the Appalachian woods into a live test range for gene-spliced predators.
Cut off by rising water and dirty politics, Archer’s only reliable ally is A.L.I.C.E., an off-grid AI with her own secrets. By dawn, the bodies will stack up unless Archer can expose the operation, outmaneuver a federal smokescreen, and survive the hunt.
Shadow Sentinel blends Michael Crichton’s scientific dread with Stephen King’s knife-edge tension: biotech gone feral, a town under siege, and an investigator who refuses to look away.

🧵 Specialty floss shop owner and embroidery artist Flora Threadwell is hosting a prestigious stitching retreat when the retreat's celebrity instructor—a famously demanding needlework star—is found dead in her studio, tangled in a massive web of embroidery floss from her own inventory. The police suspect a bizarre accident, but Flora notices the floss colors form a deliberate pattern and the victim's project contains a hidden message stitched in a rare embroidery code. With her shop temporarily closed and the embroidery world in knots, Flora must carefully separate the strands of truth from this colorful mess. Assisted by her stitching retreat guests and the handsome textile chemist analyzing dye compositions, Flora uncovers a scheme involving counterfeit floss, stolen color formulas, and a black market for rare vintage threads. From suspicious dye lots that reveal chemical inconsistencies to strand twists that don't match manufacturer specifications, every color tells a story. But when Flora discovers the victim was systematically hoarding discontinued floss colors to manipulate the collector's market, she realizes the killer is protecting a colorful legacy more valuable than any single skein. With the retreat ending soon and the real culprit still weaving deception, Flora must stitch together the evidence before her own business gets permanently unraveled.
