Synopsis

I’m supposed to be in hiding. The leader of a drug cartel has goons searching for me—and the price on my head is growing. My boss at the DEA wants me to sit still in Shotgun, Colorado, a quirky, podunk mountain town, so I don’t end up dead.

Here I am, trying to lay low and mind my own business. Problem is, my new friends keep getting me involved in things like selling toilet artwork and overly potent peach moonshine. They threw me into a fishing tournament—my skills majorly lacking—and I hooked more than I intended. A lot more.

Another dead body, and this time I witnessed his demise. I don’t know why these things keep happening when I’m around. Just lucky, I guess.

The sexy sheriff isn’t happy with me. If I keep ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time, I might be the one who ends up in jail.

Guess I’d better find the killer before anyone else ends up dead. Including me.

In a world of shadows, a sinister ritual awakens...
Just as Sheriff Rebecca West starts to relax after a harrowing hostage situation, she’s thrown into another demanding case. This one is even more ominous.
    Maybe the curse is real.
Shadow Island lore insists that anyone who steps in the shadow cast onto the old witch’s cottage is cursed. But when two bodies are discovered inside the cottage, their heads arranged in a ghastly tableau, Rebecca is more concerned about the real monsters—the human ones who’d commit such an atrocious murder.
The bizarre staging, the mutilation of the corpses, and the desecration of the cottage point to a ritualistic killing. And the horrific murders occurring upon the arrival of the traveling Lovecraft symposium—an assembly of fervent enthusiasts of the macabre—transcend mere coincidence. However, the city refuses to close the convention and lose revenue.
Murder can draw quite the crowd, after all.
But when a third gory murder occurs twenty-four hours later, one thing is clear. A vicious killer lurks in the shadow. And he’ll find a new victim every night unless Rebecca finds a way to close the book on this horror story.
From its grisly beginning to the chilling conclusion, Shadow’s Ritual—the seventh book in the Shadow Island Series by Mary Stone and Lori Rhodes—is not for the faint-hearted. Because when fiction and reality converge, the line between waking horror and the darkest nightmare disappears.

    The Past Never Stays Dead

As the anesthetic seeped into his veins, Jack Bardlow counted backward from a twisted tapestry of memories—haunting specters of love and death that clawed at his mind. Surgery promised to fix the broken pieces of his body, but the jagged shards of his past remained embedded deep in his soul.

Jack's world teetered on the razor’s edge, between the fond echoes of Katie’s laughter and the grim shadow of her departure. Each recollection was a double-edged sword, slicing through the fragile hope of redemption with the same precision as the scalpel hovering above him.

In the sterile chill of the operating room, Jack longed to drift back into the warmth of moments lost forever. But even amidst the haze of anesthesia, he knew one truth—visions of her couldn't mend the emptiness she left behind.
