Synopsis

The Covid-19 pandemic forced cities to shut down and citizens to stay home, disrupting economic activity and social life. The crisis pushed companies to adopt remote work, transforming it from a niche practice to a widespread norm, altering the balance between work and personal life. This shift created inequalities across sectors and influenced the ability of "global cities" to attract talent in a globalized labor market. Now, as the pandemic has receded, many companies are reversing course.
This Report explores how remote work has impacted cities and citizens, from mobility to urban planning. How can remote work reshape global cities? What strategies are available to local authorities? Is remote work still the future?

For anyone who has ever felt lost, broken, overwhelmed, addicted, disconnected, stuck, numb, or unsure how to come back to themselves - this book is for you.
Bringing the Lost Parts of Me Home is a guide for the part of you that remembers there is more to life than surviving. The part that knows there is something true and whole inside you, even if you haven’t felt it in a long time. Even if you’ve never felt it at all.
This is not theory. It is lived experience, bone-deep healing, and a path walked step by step.
Kathryn shares her story not as someone who avoided pain, but as someone who sat with it, moved through it, and learned how to return to herself. She offers reflections and a gentle healing framework she calls the SHIFT™ protocol: Safety, Honesty, Initiation, Feeling, Transmutation. This approach does not rush healing or demand that you “get over it.” Instead, it offers permission to feel, language for what has been unspeakable, companionship on a lonely road, and a way back into your own life.
This book will meet you in the burnout you can’t name, the grief you never fully acknowledged, the shame you’ve held quietly, the anger you were told was too much, and the longing that wakes in the night. And it will help you remember: You are not broken. You are not too late. You are not beyond repair. You are returning. This is your homecoming.Welcome home.
    About the Author:

She combines shamanic energy medicine, earth-based wisdom, somatic process, nature connection and compassionate self-inquiry to help people reclaim the parts of themselves they had to leave behind to survive. She leads retreats, nature immersions, rites of passage, ceremony, and one-on-one healing experiences for those ready to come home to themselves — not as an idea, but as a lived reality.

Homo sapiens emerged as a species about 200,000 years ago and soon––with fire, simple tools, and an egalitarian social system––we inhabited every continent. But now our infinitely elaborated tools and our highly non-egalitarian social system threaten sustainability. Many at the bottom lose the desire to live, committing suicide or succumbing to drugs, alcohol, and obesity. As women gain education and contraception, they lose the desire to reproduce, and our species' total fertility plummets toward levels far below replacement. What is Health? explains from the bottom up––molecules to society––how we reached this point. The individual organism was designed by natural selection to maximize performance for a given energy cost. Our brain predicts what will be needed and controls metabolism, physiology, and behavior to deliver just enough, just in time (allostasis). By preventing errors, rather than correcting them, energy is saved. Predictive regulation requires learning governed by an optimal rule that rewards each positive surprise with a pulse of dopamine (experienced as a pulse of satisfaction) that encourages the behavior. But now obtaining food and comfort without surprise, we are deprived of the small rewards upon which rest the whole edifice of behavioral regulation and mood. Lacking frequent pulses, we grow restless and seek new sources via consumption: more food and more drugs that produce great surges of dopamine. But the next surprise must be more––to which our systems adapt by reducing their sensitivities––which drives us into spiraling addictions. Standard medicine treats addictions by blocking reward circuits. But this strategy prevents satisfaction and deepens despair. Standard economics promotes “growth” for more “jobs”. But “jobs” devoid of challenge and social rewards drive despair. To restore health, we must re-expand opportunities for small satisfactions and thereby rescue the reward system from its pathological regime.

Understanding how right-brain and left-brain differences influence our habits, thoughts, and actions.

Human behavior is lopsided. When cradling a newborn child, most of us cradle the infant to the left. When posing for a portrait, we tend to put our left cheek forward. When kissing a lover, we tend to tilt our head to the right. Why is our behavior so lopsided and what does this teach us about our brains? How have humans always used this information to make our images more attractive and impactful? Can knowing how left-brain right-brain differences shape our opinions, tendencies, and attitudes help us make better choices in art, architecture, advertising, or even athletics?

Side Effects delves into how lateral biases in our brains influence our everyday behavior, and how being aware of these biases can be to our advantage.
