Beschreibung

This book is about the life of a teenage boy who went through a tough, difficult experience in order to escape the Soviet (Russian) slaughter of the Hungarian people. Leaving his family and country at age 19 was a very difficult time. Going to Austria, where German is spoken, and living in different refugee camps, where the food is substandard and insufficient, was hard to endure. His faith in God sustained him and made him a strong young man. After two years of refugee life, his prayers were answered and he found long-awaited freedom in the USA.

As abundant and layered as the National Pastime itself, The Big Book of Baseball Stories takes the listener on a rich journey that circles the bases of the game's history and literature—its Giants, its dramas, its tragedies, and its laughs—as it rolls through the typewriters of some of the game's mightiest scribes, from Walt Whitman and Mark Twain to Grantland Rice and Ring Lardner, even Abbott and Costello. Rediscover the feats of Babe Ruth, Christy Mathewson, Ty Cobb, and Frank Merriwell; bask in the prose of P.G. Wodehouse, Paul Gallico, and Zane Gray; and dive into the very mystery of the meaning of the seventh-inning stretch.

If you love baseball, you'll love The Big Book of Baseball Stories. Whitman called baseball "our game . . . America's game." It was then. It still is. The words within these pages invite you to remember why.

‘Few would’ve survived Rusty’s ordeal – an incredible story of hope and resilience’ - Stephen McGown, author of Six Years a Hostage
Rusty Labuschagne has been through a trauma few have experienced and disclosed. In 2003, the successful Zimbabwean businessman, who ran a safari outfit, flew his own aircraft and had a fishing resort on Lake Kariba, was framed by a poacher, the police, and the courts and wrongfully convicted of drowning a poacher.
He served ten years in Zimbabwe’s prisons, including the notorious Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison, where he suffered through food shortages, no running water, and people dying around him daily.
Rusty lost everything he had worked so hard for, but most of all, his freedom. His story is a testament to his extraordinary resilience in conditions most would find unbearable.
He shares the life lessons he learned – how to harness your inner strength, how to forgive, and how to show gratitude – as he found true freedom through sincerity and humility.
Rusty’s is an inspiring story of true grit in the face of great adversity, of a man who loses everything as he is broken by a corrupt political system, but who then rises to fight that system on his own terms. In doing so he rebuilds himself from the inside out.

Over 100 extraordinary people. One profound question. Countless life-affirming answers. When James Bailey was feeling lost in life, he was inspired by philosopher Will Durant's project, conducted in the 1930's, to write to one hundred luminaries in arts, politics, religion, sport, and sciences, challenging them to respond to a direct yet fundamental question—What is the meaning of life? The response was more remarkable than he could have ever imagined.A decade on, James had garnered an incredible collection of replies, collated here for the first time. By turns thought-provoking, amusing, and enlightening, these letters from scientists, writers, campaigners, athletes, political leaders, entertainers, survivors, and philosophers are a wonderful source of inspiration. Some are about happiness and heartbreak, some are about purpose, some are funny, and some will change the way you think. The Meaning of Life is a gift from people of all walks of life with incredible experience, connecting through one meaningful question that broadens our understanding of what it really means to be human and happy. It is more than just a collection of letters—it's a roadmap to finding your own path.

Award-winning memoirist Meg Stafford has an adventurous spirit, and this time she takes us along for the ride. When her daughters venture into terra incognita—one of them meditating in the Himalayas and the other negotiating with the Colombian military—Stafford decides to go too. In the process, she reflects on her own lifetime of wanderlust and what it means for a parent to love and to let go. Generous, insightful, and deeply funny, Stafford is the ideal tour guide for a journey as big as the world and as intimate as the human heart.“So profoundly moving, so beautifully crafted, so brave . . . A story about being true to oneself. Stafford brings all of herself to the reader as she shares her fears, doubts, triumphs, excitement, and love of life. This book is 100% authentic—because it is so human, so real.”—Susan Frankl, MD, Harvard Medical School“A road map for parenting adventurous adults . . . Stafford asks all the right questions: Where are we headed in life? Who will come with us on the journey? How do we hold our children close while allowing them the freedom to grow? The most touching part: She doesn’t hide the struggle as she tries (with love and curiosity and humor) to find the answers.”—Fran Booth, LICSW, trainer, Internal Family Systems

Groomed and procured by a woman, raped by several men and labelled ‘one of the most abused girl in Rotherham’, now Elizabeth Harper is fighting for answers as to why so many people paid to protect our children simply turned a blind eye.
Aged just 15, lonely and bullied by her peers, Elizabeth ‘El’ Harper felt like an outcast. But then a chance encounter in the street with a friendly woman suddenly brought hope to her world. A friendship between El and this benevolent stranger blossomed, and life began to feel worth living again.
As the months passed, El grew more and more distant from her family. One day, she didn’t return home to her parents at all …
Snatched is the shocking true story of how a young girl was taken from the streets and groomed into Britain’s biggest sex-trafficking ring, all at the hands of a woman.
It is also an inspiring account of how trauma can turn vulnerability to strength in the most extraordinary of ways.
This is not just an autobiography, but a survival guide that explores the depths of human relationships and the resilience of the human spirit. Harper's account of her experiences with crime and sexual assault is both harrowing and inspiring, making it a top pick in the self-help genre.
For fans of Linda Watson-Brown (Don't Say A Word), Katy Weitz (The Girl for the Job), Maggie Hartley (Battered, Broken, Healed), and Sarah Wilson (First, We Make the Beast Beautiful).
