Synopsis

The Companion has his pick of women; his cult exists to find married women eager to give themselves to him. When they do, he leaves their men in poverty, living in one of the tiny cabins on his ranch—wondering how he makes their wives so eager to submit to him. It worked on Jolene and Edgar. But will it work on Scarlett and David?

~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
Scarlett finally turned to me, her face flushed pink and her upper lip sweaty. “Dave, I love you, but I want him. I want him so badly I may rip my clothes off for him.”
There was nothing overtly sexual about anything they were doing, which was the point. Still, I couldn’t shake my sense of dread. What if they got along too well together? My wife didn’t know Terrell was a rented date. She thought he was an available guy. Had I made a terrible mistake?
When he returned, Scarlett stared at his crotch, and when he slid back in the booth, she pressed against him. Terrell whispered something in my wife’s ear, and her eyes closed, and her mouth fell open as I watched closely through an alcohol haze.
“Oh, please, yes, do that,” my wife paid no attention to the dessert. “I will, I promise. Anything.”
The three of us tried to fit in the front seat of my car for the ride home. I drove while Scarlett sat on Terrell’s lap, his hand resting on the top of her thigh. I was getting my wish, but I hadn’t counted on the hurt of being ignored. I thought Scarlett and I were in this thing together, and we’d be sharing the experience, but my wife wasn’t acting the way I’d expected.
Once I’d parked in our garage, and they’d climbed out together, I realized that I hadn’t counted on the feeling of being deserted by my wife. Then I showed Terrell to the tiny pool house, and we made sure the windows wouldn’t obstruct my views and their sounds.
I hugged my wife in our bedroom, noticing she’d changed into a nearly transparent nightgown. Scarlett had been excited by our dinner with Terrell and expected something from her husband. As tempted as I was, and no matter how good she felt, I stuck to the script, claiming I was far too tired to do anything and went straight to bed.
My wife stood with her hands on her hips, clearly agitated, and said, “I think I’ll make sure Terrell has everything he needs if you don’t mind.”
“Good idea,” I said, closing my eyes and settling into my pillow.
From the upstairs window, I watched my wife walk past the pool toward the tiny house, and as she passed under one of the lights, she started to pull off her nightgown, and she looked spectacular.
The outside lights were motion-activated, and after they turned off, I flipped the switch so they wouldn’t come back on when I stepped out the back door. I reached the poolhouse in time to see Scarlett on her knees in front of Terrell. She looked up at him, naked with her arms held behind her back. Her chest was rising and falling rapidly in time with her heavy breathing.
“Tell me again,” Terrell said.
“You might be too big, daddy.”
  • Stakeknife's Dirty War - The Inside Story of Scappaticci the IRA's Nutting Squad and the British Spooks Who Ran the War - cover
    Stakeknife's Dirty War - The...
    Freddie Scappaticci was born in 1946 and raised in a deeply nationalist area of Belfast. When the Troubles broke out in 1969, he joined the Provisional IRA, where he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming commander of Belfast in 1984.
    From the outside, Scappaticci appeared to be a dedicated volunteer, but inwardly, he had become disenchanted with the IRA and, in 1977, he started working for British intelligence. At the same time, he took up a leading role in a newly formed IRA Internal Security Unit (ISU), aka ‘The Nutting Squad’. He personally executed two suspected informers and condemned at least thirty-seven more to death.
    Was he the serial killer that history portrays him? Undoubtedly. But it’s not that simple, because every time he passed the death penalty on an informer, he told his British intelligence handlers about the intended execution, giving them the opportunity to prevent the killing.
    Did the tasking and co-ordinating group, the primary British intelligence organisation in Northern Ireland during the troubles, aid and abet the IRA in the mass-murder of British citizens? That is the question Richard O’Rawe poses in Stakeknife’s Dirty War. But O’Rawe goes further: he lays out a very compelling case that points to the TCGs running the IRA’s war from the mid-1980s to the 1994 ceasefire. Such was the British intelliegence penetration of the IRA, that Freddie Scappaticci, aka ‘Stakeknife’, was in control of all IRA operations in the Belfast Brigade area. This book will shock readers, and cause them to reevaluate everything they formerly held to be true about Stakeknife’s dirty war in Ireland.
    Greek Dark Ages and Greek...
    The Greek Dark Ages, sometimes referred to as the Homeric Age or the Geometric Period, spans the era of Greek history from the end of the Mycenaean civilization around 1100 BCE and the emergence of the Greek poleis in the 9th century BCE. It is an era that has provided little in terms of extant archaeological evidence, which in part explains the name “Dark Ages,” but this lack of evidence has led some archaeologists and historians to make the very great assumption that little of any real significance occurred during these 200 years. Instead, they view it as a sort of hiatus between the collapse of the Mycenaean culture and the emergence of Archaic Greece. As with other so-called “Dark Ages,” this assessment is simplified, and an absence of evidence should never be assumed as evidence of absence.
    If anything, the collapse of the Mycenaeans was a drawn-out affair, and while the early centuries of the Dark Ages might beseen as a continuation of this trend, even in the worst years, there was a degree of continuity and even some innovations. These changes including the beginnings of the use of iron as an alternative to bronze and some religious practices that continued to be observed. Furthermore, enough remained to form the basis of a recovery in economic, cultural, and artistic aspects of life in the later stage of the era, and in the political sphere, changes necessitated by the collapse in the economic system certainly paved the way for the rise of the polis, which would prove so fundamental in Greece in the centuries that followed.
    This laid the groundwork for the Greek Renaissance of the 8th century. During that time, the Greek alphabet developed and the earliest surviving Greek literature was composed, while in terms of art and architecture, sculptures and red-figure pottery began. Warfare changed significantly as well when the hoplite became the core infantry.
