Synopsis

Leviathan is both a magnificent literary achievement and the greatest work of political philosophy in the English language. Permanently challenging, it has found new applications and new refutations in every generation. Hobbes argues that human beings are first and foremost concerned with their own individual desires and fears. He shows that a conflict of each against every man can only be avoided by the adoption of a compact to enforce peace. The compact involves giving up some of our natural freedom to a sovereign power which will enforce the laws of peace on all citizens. Hobbes also analyses the subversive forces - religion, ambition, private conscience - that threaten to destroy the body politic, Leviathan itself, and return us to the state of war. This world view shocked many of Hobbes's contemporaries, and his work was publicly burnt for sedition and blasphemy when it was first published. But in his rejection of Aristotle's view of man as a naturally social being, and in his painstaking analysis of the ways in which society can and should function, Hobbes opened up a new world of political science.

Approaching the Holocaust in your classroom can be a difficult, often daunting task. This practical guide for English and social studies teachers features lessons learned from the author's seventeen years of experience teaching the subject, as well as his work with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Using anecdotes and empirical data, Gudgel offers advice for teaching the Holocaust in a way that is nuanced, socially responsible, and historically accurate. He provides guidance on common challenges and questions teachers will encounter, such as correcting misconceptions, using films, and discussing genocide with secondary students. While World War II grows ever more distant in the past, the lessons of the Holocaust are perhaps more relevant today than ever before. It may never be easy to teach about the Holocaust, but it can be done in ways that make it edifying and empowering.● Uses a conversational tone with classroom examples and actionable teaching advice.● Designed to make a difficult topic more accessible for teachers at all levels of experience.● Focuses on what the author believes would have been most helpful when he began teaching about the Holocaust.

The things a person does and the places he visits in search of himself…Attempts to find peace of mind, harmony and tranquility push a wanderer to pursue answers in foreign countries, in impassable jungles or places popular for pilgrims, rush off to doubtful relations, make a multimillion fortune or just stuff himself with various mind-altering substances. And only having realized once that you just need to remember, because you have known all the answers for a long time. You just need to turn the “key to all doors”, which is always inside you.In the age of mosaic thinking, overconsumption and digital enslavement, it is quite difficult for most people to accept the idea that in order to be in time, you need…to stop. Yes, yes, just to stop, close your eyes, take a deep breath, exhale, then again, and again, and again… And then your mind will be touched by revelations unknown to you until now. But between today’s you and a divine being you are meant to be, an abyss as large as Grand Canyon and as deep as Mariana Trench gapes. The fear of disappearing in one of visionary worlds stops you even from a try to make a step forward to close this gap. Disbelief, casual attitude and indifference towards yourself are just a few guardians of the humankind on the way toward awareness, regardless of the fact that it has been talked about so much recently. You can ignore the widespread tendency for emanation of eastern world perception beyond the bounds of historical territories of India, Cambodia and other spiritually uplifting countries, see another hype and fashion influence in it for as long as you want, or you can act otherwise.

Planning & writing essays and papers, evaluating what you learn and thinking critically
Aimed at students in college and university, this new audio single “Writing Essays and Papers” is taken from the bestselling album: “Learn to Study” by Professor Aidan Moran which teaches students the most important study skills for success at college and university.

How this audio learning experience works
This audio presentation has been designed using an experiential learning model, Kolb, D. A. (1984): concrete learning, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation.
By taking this approach we hope to cater for all learning styles.
You will be given specific new information in the recording usually as “key tips”, “explanations” and “quotes”. You will be led through a gentle but positive meditative reflection process to assist you before conceptualisation and then putting your new skills into practice.
You will be encouraged to return to the recording from time to time to re-listen and reinforce your learning and the desired changes in your life.
    Enjoy!
