Sinossi

Few countries can evoke such strong emotions as Cuba, a country that is constantly in the world's spotlight. Many have opinions about which path Cuba should take after the Castro brothers have relinquished power. What is happening to Cuba now? Who rules the country? Will the regime survive the economic crisis? What significance does Donald Trump's tightened Cuba policy have? And how do Cubans live today?

Cuba expert Thomas Gustafsson answers all these questions and more in this documentary and current portrayal of the country. The reader gets to follow along on a historical journey through time and space. All parts of Cuban society are depicted intimately and critically, but also lovingly. Gustafsson has interviewed leading representatives of both the regime and the opposition. The political complications and power struggles are analyzed. The military's increased influence is revealed and ordinary Cubans testify about their complicated everyday lives. The reader also gets to know the unique Cuban culture, music, literature, film, art and sports.

This is the sixth revised and updated international edition of Thomas Gustafsson's bestseller Cuba After Castro. For those who truly want to understand Cuba, this is the indispensable standard work.

33 Ways Not to Screw Up Your Journalism is a succinct, authoritative and encouraging handbook of practical and inspiring tools, techniques and values that journalists, whether they're students or newsroom veterans, need more than ever in our fractured and fact-tossed democracy. "Excellent for journalists of all ages and experience," says broadcast legend Dan Rather. Written by award-winning journalist and writing teacher and coach Chip Scanlan, former writing program director at The Poynter Institute, the book is a survival manual for journalists at a time when the news industry is in free fall and their profession is under assault. Journalists are often thrown into their craft with the most rudimentary understanding of what it means to be a journalist in a democracy. Its short, fact-packed chapters remedy that. It can be consulted at your desk or, slim enough to fit in a jacket pocket or purse, when you face a particularly thorny problem in the field. Its subjects range from treating sources with respect, being aware of your biases, plagiarism, fabrication, and ethical decision-making to letting fear stop you, combatting writer's block, and step-by-step guides to the writing process, interviewing and revision and the importance of multimedia and data journalism. Journalism is in trouble, but it's not too late to save it--or yourself--by mastering, sharing and implementing the most critical skills any reporter can have: the basics. Based on extensive research, personal experience and interviews with reporters, editors and publishers, 33 Ways Not To Screw Up Your Journalism is the essential companion for journalists and their professors and coaches.

Stories tether us to what matters most: our families, our friends, our hearts, our planet, the wondrous mystery of life itself. Yet the stories we've been telling ourselves as a civilization are killing us: Fear is wisdom. Vanity is virtuous. Violence is peace. In Between the Listening and the Telling, author and activist Mark Yaconelli leads listeners into an enchanting meditation on the power of storytelling in our individual and collective lives. We tell stories to remember who we are. We tell stories to savor the pleasure of living. Stories can be medicine, and they can transform entire communities.

Through his work with The Hearth nonprofit, Yaconelli has spent thousands of hours listening to people as they grieve loss, deepen friendships, strengthen families, shed light on injustice, and recover hope. In this moving exploration he shows us how individuals and communities can recover the practice of storytelling to address the despair of climate change, the trauma of school shootings, the tragedy of undocumented immigration, and the daily struggle for meaning.

With a foreword by Anne Lamott, Between the Listening and the Telling offers an alloy of story, commentary, and meditation. In an era of runaway loneliness, alienation, global crisis, and despair, sharing stories helps us make a home within ourselves and one another.

This bundle consists of 2 books:
Ancient Greece: Thanks to ancient Greece, we know more about philosophy, politics, the democratic system, mythology, art, the Olympics, and many, many lingual references imbedded in almost every European language. Ancient Greece has had a significant impact on many concepts we still hold true today.
Ancient Greece was a northeastern Mediterranean society that existed from the 12th-9th centuries BC till the end of classical antiquity (c. AD 600). It was made up of a loose collection of culturally and linguistically associated city-states and other areas that were only combined once, under Alexander the Great's empire, for 13 years (336-323 BC). Classical antiquity was quickly followed by the Early Middle Ages and the Byzantine period in Western history.
Ancient Egypt: When we think of Ancient Egypt, we picture movies with mazes, pyramids, traps, mummies, and symbols. And although some of these things were definitely part of it, there is so much more to this ancient civilization.
Ancient Egypt was a North African society that grew in the lower banks of the Nile River, in what's now the nation of Egypt. Following ancient Egypt, old Egyptian civilization culminated circa 3100 BC (according to basic Egyptian chronology) with Menes' political marriage of Upper and Lower Egypt (usually related to Narmer). The Old Kingdom of the Early Bronze Age, the Middle Kingdom of the Middle Bronze Age, and the New Kingdom of the Late Bronze Age formed a series of steady kingdoms split up by periods of relative instability called Intermediate Durations.
