Sinopsis

Unreasonable Hospitality By Will Guidara

Will Guidara had the opportunity to participate in a course called "Guest Chefs" while attending Cornell College. Every semester, a renowned chef would visit to prepare a dinner that the students in the course would independently manage. Guidara's team had the privilege of working with the famous chef Daniel Boulud. The dinner was successful, and they celebrated with a small party afterward. Guidara's experience with Boulud left a lasting impact, including a memory of Boulud making scrambled eggs for intoxicated college students.
However, tragedy struck when Guidara's mother passed away after a long battle with brain cancer. While he had plans to work in a kitchen in Spain, he was hesitant to rely solely on his father for financial support. Despite this, his father encouraged him to fulfill his commitment. Guidara later reached out to Boulud, requesting a special reservation for his father. Boulud generously provided a free meal in a reserved room, allowing Guidara and his father to share a special dinner together.
Guidara and his father found solace in the warm hospitality provided by Boulud and his team during their time of grief. The experience helped them overcome their sadness and brought comfort during a difficult period. From this, Guidara learned the value of using one's skills to positively impact the lives of others.

Foreword by Ian Gilbert.Primary school teachers are working harder than ever, and have more and more to do in the finite time they have with their pupils, but Mark Creasy believes it doesn't need to be like this. With rare experience in both primary and secondary phases and at leadership as well as classroom levels, Mark is ideally placed to comment on what works and what doesn't - and in this book he urges teachers to recognise that there is another way.In Independent Thinking on Primary Teaching, Mark encourages teachers to stop and consider the things they do daily in the classroom and presents a series of prompts, nudges and suggestions to help them achieve the same (or even better) results by working smarter, not harder. In so doing he shares a wealth of practical and easily transferable tips for immediate use in the classroom, all designed to streamline teachers' schedules and lighten their workload while enlivening children's learning. These are in no way doctrines, or silver bullets for success, and nothing that Mark advocates requires further investment of either time or money; rather, these 'working smarter' tips are geared to win teachers their evenings and weekends back, something that many more teachers need than is healthy for the profession.Essential reading for primary school teachers.Independent Thinking on Primary Teaching is one of a number of books in the Independent Thinking On ... series from the award-winning Independent Thinking Press.

An analysis of the efforts of American nurses to establish nursing as an academic discipline and nurses as valued researchers in the decades after World War II.

Nurses represent the largest segment of the U.S. health care workforce and spend significantly more time with patients than any other member of the health care team. Dr. Nurse probes their history to examine major changes that have taken place in American health care in the second half of the twentieth century. The book reveals how federal and state health and higher education policies shaped education within health professions after World War II.

Starting in the 1950s, academic nurses sought to construct a science of nursing—distinct from that of the related biomedical or behavioral sciences—that would provide the basis for nursing practice. Their efforts transformed nursing’s labor into a valuable site of knowledge production and proved how the application of their knowledge was integral to improving patient outcomes. Exploring the knowledge claims, strategies, and politics involved as academic nurses negotiated their roles and nursing’s future, Dr. Nurse highlights how state-supported health centers have profoundly shaped nursing education and health care delivery.
