The Woman in Me by Britney Spears

Britney Spears' memoir, "The Woman in Me," is a deeply personal narrative detailing her life in the public eye, struggles with personal relationships, the ordeal of her conservatorship, and her journey towards freedom and self-discovery. Published on October 24, 2023, by Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, the book spans 288 pages and has been released in 26 languages.

The memoir became an immediate success, garnering praise from critics and reaching the New York Times best-seller list within a week of its U.S. release, selling 1.1 million copies in all formats. By November 2023, "The Woman in Me" had sold an estimated 2.4 million copies in print globally.

Spears' memoir is reported to have come with a hefty $15 million book deal, one of the largest ever, which she signed three months after the termination of her conservatorship in 2022. The title of the book is a nod to a lyric from her 2001 song "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman," symbolizing her search for her own identity.

Martha Baillie’s richly layered response to her mother’s passing, her father's life, and her sister’s suicide is an exploration of how the body, the rooms we inhabit, and our languages offer the psyche a home, if only for a time.
Three essays, three deaths. The first is the death of the author’s mother, a protracted disappearance, leaving space for thoughtfulness and ritual: the washing of her body, the making of a death mask. The second considers the author’s father, his remoteness, his charm, a lacuna at the centre of the family even before his death, earlier than her mother’s. And then, the shocking death of the author’s sister, a visual artist and writer living with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, who writes three reasons to die on her bedroom wall and then takes her life.
"Martha Baillie’s novels are thrillingly, joyously singular, that rare combination of sui generis and just plain generous. That There Is No Blue, her memoir, is all of those things too, is no surprise; still, she has gone somewhere extraordinary. This triptych of essays, which exquisitely unfolds the “disobedient tale” of the lives and deaths of her mother, her father, and her sister, is a meditation on the mystery and wonder of grief and art making and home and memory itself. It made me think of kintsugi, the Japanese art of repair, in which the mending is not hidden but featured and beautifully illuminated. Baillie’s variety of attention, carved out of language, is tenderness, is love." – Maud Casey, author of City of Incurable Women
"This is a stunning memoir, intense and meticulous in its observations of family life. Baillie subtly interrogates and conveys the devastating mistranslations that take place in childhood, the antagonism and porousness of siblings, and the tragedy of schizophrenia as it unfolds. I couldn’t put it down." – Dr. Lisa Appignanesi, author of Mad, Bad and Sad and Everyday Madness
"Exquisite." – Souvankham Thammavongsa, author of How to Pronounce Knife
"I am grateful for this profound meditation on family and loss.” – Charlie Kaufman, filmmaker
"This strange, unsettling memoir of outer life and inner life and their bizarre twining captures the author’s identity by way of her mother’s death, her sister’s failing battle with mental illness, and the mysterious figure of her father. It combines anguished guilt, deep tenderness, and bemused affection in highly evocative, often disturbing prose. Its brave honesty is amplified by a persistent lyricism; its undercurrent of fear is uplifted by a surprising, resilient hopefulness. It is both a plea for exoneration and an act of exoneration, an authentic meditation on the terrible difficulty of being human." – Andrew Solomon, author of The Noonday Demon

In a city once voted "Worst Place to Live in the UK," an unlikely musical revolution took place. SUGAR, GRAVY, PLEASURE tells the story of the Sugar Club, Peterborough's legendary alternative music venue that became a haven for misfits, music lovers, and anyone who didn't quite fit in elsewhere.
Pete Elderkin's memoir chronicles his journey from playing in local indie band The Pleasureheads to creating one of the UK's longest-running alternative club nights. Through the evolving musical landscapes of grunge, Britpop, and nu metal, the Sugar Club offered a safe space where people could dress how they wanted, dance how they liked, and hear music that wouldn't be played anywhere else in town.
With a colourful cast of characters including loyal doormen, eccentric DJs, amorous couples under the piano, and a mysterious regular who disappeared into the "Fenland Bermuda Triangle," this is more than just a story about music – it's a celebration of community, friendship, and the power of creating your own culture when none exists. From dodging skinheads and navigating bomb scares to hosting early performances by soon-to-be-famous bands, Elderkin captures both the chaos and the camaraderie of running an alternative club in a provincial city.
Written with humour and heart, SUGAR, GRAVY, PLEASURE is an unapologetic tribute to working-class culture, alternative music, and the magical moments that happen when like-minded people find their tribe. It's a reminder that sometimes the best nights of our lives happen not in the big cities, but in the places where we have to make our own entertainment.

This lyrical hybrid memoir revisits a lifetime's worth of personal journals to slowly piece together a narrative of chronic illness—a moving account of survival, memory, loss, and hope.

Shahd Alshammari is just eighteen when she is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and told by her neurologist that she would not make it past age thirty. Despite what she is told, by thirty, she has become a professor of literature, and has managed to navigate education systems in both Kuwait and the United Kingdom and inspire generations of students.

Head above Water is the intimate, philosophical memoir of Shahd Alshammari's life of triumph and resistance, as a woman marked "ill" by society and as a lifelong reader, student, and teacher. Charting her journey with raw honesty, Alshammari explores disability, displacement, and belonging—not only of the body, but of culture, gender, and race, and imparts wisdom of profound philosophical value throughout. It is people, human connections, that keep us afloat, she argues—"and in storytelling we have the power to gain a sense of agency over our lives."

Sir Nicholas Winton rescued 669 Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia at the brink of World War II. Most never saw their parents again. This is his story.

Now a major motion picture starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter

In 1938, twenty-nine-year-old "Nicky" canceled a ski trip and instead spent nine months masterminding a seemingly impossible plan to rescue hundreds of Jewish children and find them homes in the United Kingdom. Over 6,000 people are alive today because of his efforts.

What motivated an ordinary man to do something so extraordinary? This book, written by his daughter, Barbara, explores the 106-year life of an incredible humanitarian, a man whose legacy only came to public light decades later.

His life story is a clarion call to choose action over apathy in the face of injustice, and a reminder that every one of us can change the world.

"If something is not impossible, then there must be a way to do it."
