Synopsis

In "A Popular History of Ireland (Vol. 1 & 2)", Thomas D'Arcy McGee presents a comprehensive and accessible recounting of the Irish experience, spanning from ancient times to the 17th century. Employing a narrative style that melds vivid storytelling with scholarly rigor, McGee adeptly interweaves historical events with cultural insights, providing readers with a multifaceted view of Irish identity. His work reflects the Romantic literary movement's emphasis on nationalism and the valorization of the folk narrative, all while positioning Ireland's history within the broader context of European developments. Thomas D'Arcy McGee, an influential Irish nationalist politician and advocate of Irish unity, was profoundly shaped by the tumultuous socio-political landscape of his time. Born in 1825 in Ireland and later emigrating to Canada, McGee's experiences as an immigrant and his commitment to the Irish cause fueled his desire to document and commemorate the rich heritage of his homeland. His scholarship was driven not only by a need for preservation but also by a vision of aspiration for Ireland's future as a sovereign entity. This work is highly recommended for those seeking a deeper understanding of Ireland'Äôs past through a lens that celebrates its cultural richness and complexity. Scholars, students, and general readers alike will find McGee's compelling narrative an essential resource that bridges the gap between scholarly history and popular understanding.

A Fascinating Exploration on Why the Darwinists’ Theory No Longer Explains EverythingThere was once a set of ideas called the theory of evolution, conceived by clever people and confirmed by countless scientists. Then people discovered the electron microscope. This made it possible to make the molecules within the cell visible, and suddenly questions about evolution arose that were not possible before. Which force actually bundles the atoms in the right order? What moves the molecular chains into the correct position? How did the first living unit within the cell actually come about? How does inheritance work, how does information pass on to the next generation? Did humans descend only and exclusively from primates—as Charles Darwin and countless other great minds assumed—or did additional “engines” intervene in evolution? Today it is clear: countless questions can no longer be answered with the previous theory of evolution. There is a form of life called “Blob” (Physarum polycephalum). The “thing” has neither eyes nor ears, neither a mouth nor a nose or even a brain. Nevertheless, it takes in food, overcomes obstacles by the shortest route and exchanges information with other “blobs.” The “blob” contradicts any evolutionary thought that one develops from the other. Or the “gastric-brooding frogs” (Rheobatrachus) found in Australia. They hatch their young in the stomach. Impossible in a slow, evolutionary process. Everywhere there are characteristics of animals that do not want to fit into the theory of evolution anywhere. And man? Are we really the most adapted life-form on this planet? Today, more and more scientists who contradict the previous theory of evolution speak out. The theory fits the changes within the species, but it can no longer be reconciled with the inner workings of the cell. Some other influence that has so far escaped us is affecting evolution. It is called “Intelligent Design.” Intelligent planning is suspected behind this. Anyone or anything—a spirit of the universe? Aliens?—could be behind this planning. Erich von Däniken uses countless examples to demonstrate the impossibility of the previous evolutionary idea. He quotes scientists who argue against the previous teaching, but also those who defend it. Unfortunately, established science still refuses to look at discrepancies and holes in the theory of evolution, even though it is quite obvious that there is more going on with regard to the development of all species, as well as human culture, than could be explained by the theory of evolution alone.

Step into one of the most fascinating works of subterranean lore ever written. First published in 1908, The Smoky God recounts the extraordinary tale of Olaf Jansen, a Norwegian sailor who claimed to have journeyed with his father through an opening at the North Pole into a vast hidden land within the Earth.
Inside, they discovered a thriving civilization of giants, a lush inner sun known as “The Smoky God,” and a society far advanced in peace, longevity, and wisdom. Blending travel narrative, myth, and esoteric speculation, this gripping account has become a cornerstone of Hollow Earth theory and alternative history.
Is it fact, allegory, or pure imagination? That question continues to fuel its enduring mystery. What is certain is that Emerson’s book has inspired generations of explorers, mystics, and seekers to question the boundaries of geography, science, and human possibility.
Now brought to life in audiobook form, The Smoky God is more than a story—it is an invitation to explore the unknown and consider what wonders might lie hidden beneath our very feet.

A “fascinating and informative” reassessment of the underappreciated Confederate general’s achievements and ahead-of-his-time military strategy (Midwest Book Review).   Lieutenant-General James Longstreet, commander of the First Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia, was a brilliant tactician and strategist. Prior to the Civil War there were many technological developments, of which the rifled musket and cannon, rail transport, and the telegraph were just a few. In addition, the North enjoyed a great advantage in manpower and resources. Longstreet adapted to these technological changes and the disparity between the belligerents, making recommendations on how the war should be fought.   Longstreet made a mental leap to adjust to this new type of warfare. Many others didn’t make this leap, including Lee, Jackson, Bragg, Hood, and Jefferson Davis, and Longstreet’s advice went unheeded. In contrast to many southern generals, he advocated for defensive warfare, using entrenchments and trying to maneuver the enemy to assault his position, conserving manpower, resources, and supplies. With the advent of the highly accurate and long-range rifled musket, offensive tactics became questionable and risky. This caused Longstreet to come into conflict with General Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg, and with General Bragg at Chickamauga.   Longstreet, a pragmatic and methodical general, was never given full authority over an army in the field. Had his suggestions been utilized there would have been a better outcome for the South. Many historians and biographers have misunderstood Longstreet and his motives, but this work offers a fresh perspective. It takes a new viewpoint of the Civil War and the generals who tailored their designs to pursue the war, analyzes Longstreet’s views of the generals and the tactics and strategy they employed, and examines why Longstreet proposed and urged a new type of warfare.
